Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Activation Number Issue

Has anyone Not been able to activate Alpha5v6 on their computer? See attached graphic for what I get. This is on the same machine that I have a working copy of the full version of Alpha5v5 and the version 5 3 user license runtime. The version 6 beta worked fine. Once I recieved an e mail from sales with the download link, I downloaded and installed the new version 6 full version I purchased. The version I purchased was without an included license for the web app server. I do not need the web server at this time. On first install, version 6 picked up my version 5 license number. On suggestion, I deleted the version 6 user key folder forcing version 6 to ask for the new license. I entered new license when asked (copy/paste).
Went online to activate and the result was an error telling me that I could not register the version I had online and must call tech support. Sent an e mail to support which resulted in a request for my machine name whic I gave them. In return I recieved an activation code key. Copy/paste into enter activation key box. Result is no Ok button and when I try alt - O I get message seen in attached graphic.

I have also applied a patch that was suggested by support without results. Uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times also without results. I believe tech support is now at a loss about what is wrong and how to fix it.

Anyone with any ideas about how to fix this?

    Thanks,

      RE: Activation Number Issue

The problem with the activation number has been solved. I discussed the problem with Brett Johnston of Alpha Software this morning and he was able to solve the problem and get the correct activation code generated for me.

      Thanks Brett,

        What is the solution?

I have called, emailed and posted a topic on this issue but no one has responded.

            RE: Activation Number Issue

            Shawn,

The issue I had was with the fact that the rep at Alpha was using my computer users name to generate the activation key and not the computer name as he was susposed to do. How they could confuse the two I don't know. Anyway, once that fact surfaced it was a simple matter to generate the correct key from the computer name.

I had no problem with emailing them and getting a response. I did wind up making a call at their request to solve the issue.

I believe all the Alpha stuff is in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Alpha Software, Alpha Five 6.0 key. I believe if I remember right the registration is in the user sub-folder.

You can put your key in there, but if it is the wrong one it won't work. Alpha makes a unique hash using your computer name so if they are getting the name wrong for some reason, then the key will be wrong and not match what your Alpha program generates.

This is why you read all the time, if you do a major overhaul of your computer (after a hd failure for ex.) or buy a new computer, it is recommended that you name the computer the same as where you origionally installed the Alpha software. Otherwise you will have to call support, explain what you did so they can generate a new number from the new name.

            Hope this helps some.

            Phil
