Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Windows NT 4.0 installation

Has anyone had trouble installing version 6 on Windows NT 4.0 Small Business Server?

    1. There's no .exe shortcut on the start-"programs-"Alpha 6 menu. There is the "Help" shortcut though.

    2. When booting from Alpha5.exe in the version 6 folder directly, a dialog window pops up telling me it can't find MSIMG32.dll in
    a. c\winnt.sbs\system32 or in
    b. c:\program files\a5v6 or in
    c. c\winnt.sbs or in
    d. c:\program files\MTS.[something. it's cut off!]

I tried unstalling the version 5 but there's no unwise.exe in the A5v5 folder and no intall log for it that I can find.

A word to Selwyn: Thanks for the note re my asking about Lightning Query. The problem is most likely due to my trying to use v.6 on a win98 machine. As soon as I fix the NT situation, I'll try again.

Burt, the system requirements for v6 are Windows 2000, XP or 2003.

      Lenny,

Does this also apply for the runtime only version?

          Burt,

It's been a while since I ran into this problem, so I can't remember exactly how I got around it. But I am using V6 with NT with no problems (though I really haven't used the web server yet).

But I believe all I did was get the MSIMG32.dll file from a windows 2000 PC and copy it to my c:\winnt\system32 directory. (hope I did't violate some copyright/licensing provision)

Someone jump in here if this doesn't look correct.

            RE: Windows NT 4.0 installation

Having used VB apps on NT, It seems we had to do this with several files. We had a whole bunch that we had to copy and register in NT or other versions of windows to make our apps work.

The modem software to get a credit bureau was the worst one as I recall. We had to have a file made(didnt work) and was finally able to get one already done. Thought MS should have supplied that one.

              Vince,

The process you've given corrected the problem. But gave me another one and the msg was "The procedure entry point GdiGradientFill could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll. Any answers out there?

                Hi Gil,

I am attaching the dgi32.dll file here, put it in your system32 directory and see if it resolves the error. If you already have that filename in the directory I suggest you first rename it to something like dgi32.dll.old just in case.
