Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    3 Charts on 1 form. How?

    At present I have a form in my Application which has a chart showing invoice information from monthly invoice as each site is selected i.e.

    Say site has received 6 monthly invoices the chart would show a bar showing units used for each month if that site is selected.

    I have prepared a coded script to represent this chart and used

    script_play_local ("open_barchart1")

    in the On Fetch event for the form.

    This works perfectly.

    Now I want to set up the form to show 3 seperate graphs each graph depicting a different value on the invoices.

    I have prepared 2 further scripts which show say Gross cost per month on one chart and net cost per month on another

    These work perfectly individually using

    script_play_local ("open_barchart2") to open Form 2

    and

    script_play_local ("open_barchart3") to open Form 3

    How do I get the three graphs to open on Form1?

    In the On Fetch event of Form1 I have tried
    script_play_local ("open_barchart1")
    script_play_local ("open_barchart2")
    script_play_local ("open_barchart3") as the code but unfortuneately only barchart1 shows correctly with the other 2 showing "No Chart Data"

    Any suggestions

    Regards Robert

    You don't give much to go on, because the problem is likely in the scripts you are calling, not the order you are calling them in. My guess is you followed the instructions too literally and have reused the chartgen variable in the examples. You'll likely need a separate variable for each chart.

      Aaron,

      The scripts work satisfactorily when I call them individually. Show all the charts as expected.

      I just do not know how to write the script for the onfetch event to open them all on the same form.

      Is it reasonable to expect that the script I tried should work or is there more to it than that.

        As I said in my last message, we need to see your scripts to know what the problem is. My GUESS is that you are reusing the chartGen variable instead of creating a new one with a different name in each script.

          Here are the two scripts that I am using and the on fetch script for the form.

            They are both pointing to the same activex control:

            chartGen = activex1.activex.this

            Assuming you have 3 controls on your form, they are probably called ActiveX1, ActiveX2, and ActiveX3, though that is not guaranteed to be true, so you'll have to check the object names.

              Aaron,

              Thank you for your help. My objects on the form were Activex1 and Activex2 so I change the scripts to correspond and both charts are now showing.
              Much appreciated. Another lesson learned.

                As a side note, your two scripts appear almost identical with a very small few exceptions. In order to reuse code, I would create a function that took a couple parameters, ala:

                Code:
                FUNCTION BarChart AS V ( chartGen AS P, series as C, caption AS C, field AS C, SiteID AS C)

                dim invoice_list as c as p
                dim month as c
                dim units as n
                dim c as ColorDefinition
                c.name = "Win3D"

                invoice_list = set.external_record_content_get("site_invoiceset","site_invoice_data->Monthf + '|' + "+field,"","Site_idf=" + SiteID + "")

                chartGen = activex1.activex.this
                chartGen.DataSeries.Clear()
                'chartGen.PieLabelMode	= 1 	'scPieLabelModeInside
                'chartGen.LegendPos		= 3		'scLegendPosBottom
                'chartGen.BackColor		= c.RGB_Value
                'chartGen.BorderColor	= c.RGB_Value
                'chartGen.Caption		= Caption
                chartGen.DataSeries.AddBarSeries(series,0)
                for each invoice in invoice_list
                	month	= alltrim(word(invoice.value,1,"|"))
                	units	= val(word(invoice.value,2,"|"))
                	month	= Month + " - " + units
                	chartGen.DataSeries(1).SeriesData.Add(month,units,0) 'scFillModeAutoSolid)
                next

                ChartGen.Refresh()

                END FUNCTION
                then your OnFetch code would be
                Code:
                DrawChart(activex1.activex.this, "Gross Amount", "Gross amount by Month", "site_invoice_data->gros_amountf", Site_data->Site_idf)
                DrawChart(activex2.activex.this, "Units used", "Kwh units used by Month", "site_invoice_data->site_unitf", Site_data->Site_idf)
                As a rule of thumb, if you are copying and pasting more than a couple lines of code, you need to write a function.

                  Thanks Aaron,

                  I'm just at the stage of copying and changing code and hopefully learning from the experience. The information that you have given me gives me another insight coming up with same solution. I will follow you advice and see if this takes me forward.
