Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    custom rightclick menu for image fields

    Is it possible to customize the rightclick menu for image fields?
    For other type of fields there is a tab on the properties popup, where the rightclick menu can be changed, but i do not know how to change it for image fields.

    Thanks Sieward

    You can do it, but it requires xbasic.
    You will have to put code in the form's OnInit event.

    say that the object name of the image field is 'bmp'.

    You would need to add this code in the form's OnInit event:
    Code:
    :topparent:Bmp.Property_Add("right_click_menu")
    :topparent:Bmp.right_click_menu = "TheNameOfYouMenu"

        when i click the import image option then a screen appears which is in English. Is there a way to translate the English into Dutch, or can this entire screen be rebuild in A5?

          I see what is happening. The custom menu is calling a built-in A5 function that generates the menu on the fly depending on what kind of image field.

          I am not sure if this will work, but you could try it. I will give you the source code to this function (a5_image_edit_menu() )

          Put this function in your database, and then edit the menus that this function generates so that they are in Dutch.

          Hopefully, the locally defined a5_image_edit_menu() function will override the native a5_image_edit_menu() function.

          If not, we will come up with another way for you to customize this menu.

          Code:
          function a5_image_edit_menu as c (context = "right-click")
          'DESCRIPTION:Generates a dynamic menu snippet depending on the class of the current object
          'LIMITATIONS:X

          if topparent.Active_Drilldown() = "" then

          	a5_image_edit_menu = ""
          	exit function
          end if

          dim shared __hidden__obj as p
          __hidden__obj = obj(topparent.Active_Drilldown())

              a5_image_edit_menu = ""
              if (__hidden__obj.class() = "column") .or. (__hidden__obj.class() = "type-in field" ) then
                 if __hidden__obj.field_get().type_get() = "Image File Reference" then
                  a5_image_edit_menu = <<%str%

              The locally defined function a5_image_edit_menu overrides the native A5 function.

              However the menu then still contains "Enter new record", "Save record", "Cancel Changes" , "Show all" and "Allow edits".
              It may be possible to put the different functions you want (In my case a5_get_jpeg, a5_put_jpeg, a5_control_delete_image, a5_paste_jpeg, a5_copy_jpeg) in a custom image right-click menu that is declared in form's OnInit event (see above).

              But then when for example a5_get_jpeg is called a dialog box opens with words as "File name", "Look in" and "Preview". Is it possible to cutomize this dialog box as well?

              Thanks

                custom rightclick menu for image fields

                I'm trying to add custom menus to image reference fields on a form as described by Selwyn:

                Originally posted by Selwyn Rabins View Post

                You would need to add this code in the form's OnInit event:
                Code:

                :topparent:Bmp.right_click_menu = "TheNameOfYouMenu"
                so I added the following code to the form's OnInit event as follows
                'Date Created: 30-Oct-2009 10:09:27 PM
                'Last Updated: 30-Oct-2009 10:09:27 PM

                'Updated By : Graham
                :topparent:Markings1_file.Property_add("right_click_menu")
                :topparent:Markings1_file.right_click_menu = "appendix_c_photo_menu"
                but when the form is initialised I get the error message:
                Script:OnInit line:5
                :topparent:Markings1_file.Property_add("right_click_menu")
                Argument is incorrect data type
                so what am I doing wrong?
