Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What browser are you using? Does it happen in all browsers?

        I had the same issue

I posted about it back in Sept. This is the response I got.

I wrote the peccant control. The menu showing up under the combo box in IE has no good fix (in Firefox and Opera this is not a problem), and is one of the reasons I am none to fond of IE.
        Thank you,
        Eavan

Do you know if this is still an issue with the Final Version of 7 or has the issue with IE been solved?

              Alpha Software:

Is this a verified problem. And if so, is it something that will be fixed soon?

I'm working on an app that will be using a lot of Menu Navigation Controls and if its going to be a problem with IE then I need to rethink the Menu tools?

We are going to fix this. It is definitely a bug in IE.

The approach that we will be taking to work around this bug is the same as is taken by this message board.

This message board software (as you know) has pull down menus and you will notice that when a menu is pulled down and it obscures a dropdown box, the dropdown box temporarily hidden.

We will implement the same logic.

attached is a zip file that contains a javascript file with a work around for the bug in IE.

you will need to unzip this and put it in the C:\Program Files\A5V7\JavaScript

                  folder.

then republish your applications and be sure to click the 'clear publishing history' button to make sure that the javascript file gets published to your server.

if this test file works well, it will become part of the next patch.

i look forward to hearing your comments.

                    Testing the Fix

                    I tried the fix.

It solves the 'diving of dropdownboxes under menu entries.

But: As you can see from the sequence of 3 stages of menu entry i did, it make the field contents of dropdownboxes totally disapear on screen when selecting a menu entry after the first level....The contents re appear again after the menu selection is made.

In short: It solves the issue, and introduces a minor new one. But I am satisfied with this one already !

                    Thanks, Ron

That disappearance is intentional. The bug is actually in Internet Explorer, as it always renders the drop-down boxes on the top layer. This is a problem encountered by all web sites, though they usually can avoid having a drop-down near their menu.

The workaround we've implemented is to temporarily hide the drop-downs so they do not obscure your menu. While not perfect, we have no way to fix the real problem since it is a bug in IE and this solution will allow your menus to do what they need to.

Incidentally, this is also how vBulletin works around this Internet Explorer bug.
