Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I finally figured it out. Below is the Xbasic code that works.
    Code:
    <%a5
    dim msg as c = ""
    if eval_valid("cmd")
    filetoupload.filename=word(filetoupload.filename,-1,"\\")
        file.from_blob(session.session_folder + "\\" + FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)
        msg = "<a href=\"/" + FileToUpload.filename + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + FileToUpload.filename + "</a> was uploaded<br /><br />"
        'your code to place the newly uploaded file into a table would go here
    end if
    %>
    The major change for both ab042 and myself is that the file is now written into the session folder seeing that we are both going to put the image into the dababase. This way it will be erased when the session is over and the web root directory won't be cluttered up.

        There is no need to do the word() as the path is now removed automatically by the server.

        Aslo the example code was meant as just that - an example. It does in fact place the files in the web root so that you could download them to verify that they were uploaded properly. But as you've pointed out, you can place the file anywhere you'd like on the server's hard drive.

          Robert,

          You might want to take a look at this thread:

            It sounds like you want the browser user to upload a picture to the current record. The upload logic is explained at Uploading Files to the Web Application Server

              Edward I guess you missed a couple of posts. Lenny posted a more accurate piece of code than the one you are referring to, which didn't do anything when I tried it. Two lines appear to be switched. I've also posted code for it that puts the upload in the session folder Also in this thread. Plus as I've mentioned before, the page you are referring to is not in the index.

                J,
                I have not had any luck in uploading a jpeg to the WAS pict field. I tried Ed Larrabee's script

                http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...ion_Server.htm

                but that gave me an error:line 10:expected value when I tried to load the fileupload.a5w page. I don't understand xbasic yet so I can't figure out the problem there.

                I don't have my WAS V7 license number yet so I was only able to test it in V6 WAS. You can certainly insert text into a text field, and it would seem that you should be able to import a jpeg into a pict field. We'll see if anyone can help.

                BTW, The jpeg resides on the remote computer accessing the WAS... The one I'm sitting in front of. I'm not sure why Lenny is not understanding your question.

                  Bill, this feature is only available in V7. V6 does not support file uploads.

                    Bill I got it working last night. The dispaly page contains two tabbed grids showing the photos. The edit page has the same grids but the information shows instead of the photos. The code below is placed below the grids (there are actually 2 upload boxes one for each grid as they are linked but seperate databases). The response.redirect bit goes to the first page with the photos displayed.

                    Code:

                    <%a5
                    dim msg as c = ""
                    if eval_valid("cmd")
                        filetoupload.filename=word(filetoupload.filename,-1,"\\")
                        file.from_blob(session.session_folder + "\\" + FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)
                        msg = "<a href=\"/" + FileToUpload.filename + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + FileToUpload.filename + "</a> was uploaded to Descendent<br /><br />"
                        Dim t as P
                        Dim Rec as N
                        Dim indx as P

                        t= table.open("descendents.dbf")
                        query.filter = "Key = " + quote(session.link)
                        indx = t.query_create()
                        Rec = indx.records_get()
                        if (rec > 0) then
                         t.fetch_first()
                         t.change_begin()
                         t.Photo=FILE.TO_BLOB( session.session_folder + "\\" + FileToUpload.filename )
                         t.changedby=session.User_name
                            t.change_end(.t.)
                         end if
                         t.query_detach_all()
                         t.close()
                         response.redirect("view.a5w")
                    END IF
                    %>
                      <%a5 ? msg %>
                            <form action="<%a5 ?request.script_name %>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">

                      <input type="file" name="FileToUpload" ><br >
                            <input type="submit" name="cmd" value="Upload Descendent Pic"></form>
                    I let you look but the final version of a5V7 cut off external access to WAS on my PC
