Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Do like Lenny says - contact Brett. I am now licensed and activated. And all because I responded to your post, trying to ease your pain...

Stephen, My pain as been eased thanks to Selwyn. I think the points i made above were valid but before the release of A5V8 i plan to take up yoga and meditation so i can join the ranks of the cool, calm and collected Alpha customers like yourself.

Now i do not have to face a A5V7 less weekend i'm a happy man. (at last)

        The big picture

First let me say that, though I've been an Alpha user since Egghead Software had stores all over the country, I've never posted to the forum. So this is a first for me.

But as I see it those of us who purchased the extra copy of V6 in order to get the free upgrade to V7 really lost nothing except a few days of being parted from our money. The people at Alpha were good at their word, and then some. There are generous discounts along with a welcomed addition of printed docs. Unlike some big companies with Major resources Alpha gave us a promised delivery date and, good at their word, they delivered.

My only concern is stability. While I haven't reported any bugs (for which I am remiss), I've felt frustration in trying to learn a product with such great promise, who's development interface plays "sometimes you see it, sometimes you don't." If I were to develop an application for a client using V6, I would do so with little confidence. And it seems to me that if V6 was stable enough for me to confidently learn its rich set of tools then the purchase of any upgrades would be well worth the coin.

I read the forum on a regular basis and rarely have I seen such a patient and loyal customer base. But I've noticed that a goodly portion of the posts deal with a quirky V6. I have placed my bet and can only hope that Alpha has put as much effort into fixing those bugs as they have obviously done in developing new features for V7.
