Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Final 7 release License Number

Now that the final product has been released what is the process of getting our license number for ver 7 so we can activate it?

Not sure if its different but I'm one of the customer that purchased ver 6 with a free upgrade to ver 7 and we also purchased the WEB Server product and assume we will need the same info on it.

    Thanks

That's great Len - possibly worthy of an announcement in the form.

I keep checking my email for my upgrade license instructions - nothing yet.

I trust that patience is the only thing lacking and that I haven't somehow fallen through the cracks. An official word of explanation would be helpful, especially if my patience is going to be tested through the weekend! My beta expires on Saturday.

Have some of you received your promised upgrade instructions via email? Mine will probably arrive in 5 minutes...

David, my beta has expired. I have no upgrade instructions. I could have purchased the upgrade for $99 yesterday from the store. I chose to buy the promotion (another copy of Av5V6 I didn't need). I did purchase the WAS V7 upgrade yesterday. I guess buying the promotion was a bad idea. Patience doesn't work either. Fool me once, shame on me.

It seems to me that Alpha Software customers are the most understanding around judging by this message board. I'am personally very angry by this situation and feel, dare i say duped by Alpha. I too purchased another (unneeded) License for A5V6 just for the free upgrade to A5V7 because it was clearly stated that A5V7 will be priced at $349 when it's released. Now the release day comes and it's priced at $99, exactly what we all paid. This alone is annoying enough because we could have just waited to purchase V7 but now it feels like because they have our money already we are put at the back of the queue and new buyers get priority.

I have contacted Alpha and was told the emails containing the instructions for getting our licenses will be going out today or early next week. Would it have been too difficult to send out the licenses to those who already paid on the day of release?

I'am a long time user of Alpha Databases and love the products but i will think twice the next time another "special offer" comes along.

I appreciate your comments. The reality is that there are an extremely large number of people who qualify for a free V7 upgrade and we are sending the upgrade mailings out in batches (and not all at once) because we would be overwhelmed if we were to send out the mailing all at once.

You have not been duped. We don't do business like that.

Life is a LOT more pleasant this way.

If it cheers you up any I paid $199 in January to get the V6 upgrade just so I could get V7. I still do not have my license for V7. My trial period has expired.

Meanwhile I keep using V5. What is another few days among friends.

Now, what does A5 do for me? I really like their product, and I love the service! Just look at the response YOU got. :) From the "main man", even! We are not forgoten...

Stephen, you can also contact Brett as Aaron suggested above and he will be able to get you up and running.

Selwyn, Thanks for replying to my post. I really appreciate that you take time to get back to us but could you answer a couple of questions for me.

Why were existing A5V6 users encouraged to buy another A5V6 license with the promise of a free A5V7 for $99 (and told the price was going to be $349) when they could have waited and purchased V7 for $99 on the day of release anyway?

Also while i'm sure the intentions were good but did nobody foresee that the policy of "pay in advance, be last to get it" was not a good one and that those less understanding customers (me) would be angered by this?

And finally in my two emails to Alpha would it not have been possible (and easier) to include my license number in one of the replies to ensure my blood pressure did not reach the level it currently is?

                              Okay rant over.
