Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Not Working

    I'm missing something I'm sure. Can anyone tell me why my print is not working on a simple report from my online database? Here's the component in the AfterValidate event which was created by the Print Genie:

    dim filter as c
    dim order as c
    Filter = .t.
    Order = ""

    Dim filename as c
    filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "tempreport.pdf"
    filename = report.saveas("Gift List@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\gifts.ddd","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
    if file.exists(filename)
    currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
    end if

    I created the button and the component was placed on the a5w page where the database can be seen.

    You don't say what happens when you try to print. Do you get an error? Do you get a blank page?

    After taking a second look at your code I see this.

    dim Filter as C

    and then

    Filter = .t.

    Filter would have to be a character not a logical. Do you need to filter the records before printing?

        OK then try changing Filter = .t. to Filter = ""

          No Change

          Tried the "" and it had no effect on the print. Any more ideas?

            There appear to be 2 problems. One is the filter as you found, and the other is the use of the session.session.session_folder. You don't need the chr(92) as the variable value includes the backsplash. This should work

            Code:
            dim filter as c
            dim order as c
            Filter = ".t."
            Order = ""

            Dim filename as c
            filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
            A good way to see all of the session and request variables is to create a new a5w page and put this in the page source code

            Code:
            <body>
            <p><%A5 a5w_info() %> </p>
            </body>
            When you run the page, you will see all of the values available to the server as well as other important information.

              Still No luck

              Jerry...
              Still not any luck. I did create the page to get variables and it worked fine. I have tried two version of the print routine (wasn't sure I completely understood yours), and neither work. I tried one that ONLY had the text you provided and then the second that had:

              dim filter as c
              dim order as c
              Filter = ".t."
              Order = ""

              Dim filename as c
              filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
              filename = report.saveas("Gift List@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\gifts.ddd","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
              if file.exists(filename)
              currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
              end if

              Again, neither worked. The server I am using is one an A5Online so it's not my server and I wonder if I have to have some thing special for that. I will send them an email to see if they can help too. Thanks again. I am not really a programmer and some of this stuff makes me crazy while some of it's really easy to follow. My next challenge is setting up a secure login for the database view and then a second "user name" and Password" check to allow only the individual that owns the record to change it. First this print thing!!

                Adobe Acrobat Conflict?

                Just a thought on this printing issue. Is it possible there is a conflict between the V7 Adobe print routines and my Adobe Acrobat 6.0 drivers?

                  Well this is what I use and it works including the chr(92), which by the way is included when you use the Genie.

                  Code:
                  filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "tempreport.pdf"
                  Also I don't see how Filter = ".t." would work. If you don't want a filter it should be Filter = ""

                  Also Gary, are you using a dialog or is the code just in a page that you are calling? The redirect is different if the code is just in a page you are calling.

                  Code:
                  response.Redirect(session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
                  I made that mistake before and it drove me crazy until Selwyn pointed it out to me.

                    You said you were testing it on A5-Online so it would not have anything to with any drivers on your computer. It is the server that is creating the PDF file.

                    Have you tested it locally?

                      Calling Page?

                      The button to print is a web component inside an a5w page that also has a web component for showing the grid of the database info.

                      You are right about the Genie putting in the .t. so I suspect it must be something else.

                        Gary, I didn't say the Genie put in the ".t.", I meant the chr(92) but maybe it puts in the ".t." also, I have to check.

                        Anyway did you try it with just Filter = "" ?

                        Where is the code? In the AfterValidate event of the dialog?

                            This an example of what I use that works.

                            Code:
                            filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "tempreport.pdf"
                            filename = report.saveas("Wallcalcreport@<adb_path>\Wallcalcreport.set","PDF", filter, order, filename,.f.)
                            Notice it uses <adb_path> instead of [PathAlias.ADB.Path]. Not sure if it makes a difference but it's worth a try.

                              Similar code

                              What is really wierd is that I have another database, in separate directory in my account on A5Online and it has a grid/a5w page with a print button that works fine. I have tried to copy the code from there and change the appropriate file names but it still does not work. Here's the code for the one that works:

                              dim filter as c
                              dim order as c
                              Filter = ""
                              Order = "Lastname"

                              Dim filename as c
                              filename = "c:\a5webroot\solutionservices\shrcroster.pdf"
                              filename = report.saveas("QuickRoster@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\members.ddd","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
                              currentform.RedirectTarget = "http://solsvcs.a5-online.com/shrcroster.pdf"
