Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email profile on web server??

How do you set the email profile for the built in client when you are using a remote server or does the profile get published along with the rest of the components and databases?

    #2
The email profile does not get published. You will need to have the ISP set up an email profile for you.

Aaron Thats been done. You create profiles, about the accounts that you have, in Alpha that are used in Email functions. I have a couple that I used with the local WAS but now that the site is on a host are these profiles available or do I have to hard code the functions with the username password etc.

The profile is available on the server if the ISP has set it up for you. You will just have to specify the profile name whenever you do an email_send() or email_receive().

Is there a special way we need to setup the Stand Alone WEB version of A5V7? If so how do we set it up to use the email.

We haven't gotten around to the email part of our web app yet but will need it.

Jerry will you have your own server or are you going to use a remote host.

If its the latter I let you know after I finish fumbling around to set up mine.

I have the stand alone ver of A5v7 WEB on our own server.

FYI: We do NOT have the Dev version of the app loaded on that server just the stand alone WEB version

                Thanks

There is no way to configure email profiles in the web-only version right now, which is an oversight we are going to correct.

Do I need to purchase the full version and load it on the machine to get this working or will there be a fix coming in the next several days?

FYI: Its not urgent today but I will need it soon?

We'll get something out shortly. There is no need to purchase the full version because of this.

This has now been addressed and the next patch will include the fix. Sorry for the incovenience.

If you'd like to set up an email profile now without waiting for the patch, you can download and install the A5v7 trial from our home page and install that on your server. Even though it is in trial mode, you will be able to create a profile which will then be visible to the Web App Server.

Lenny - your WAS patch 11/14 did not contain any way to update the email profile (unless I can't find it). Also, the patch "came with" a 30 day trial session that I cannot remove. Is that going to present a problem?

Yes, except it is green. Dbl-click brings up the CP.

You might put the build number somewhere on the CP. I just ran the upgrade, and know it is applied, but I can't confirm that by looking at the CP.
