    Default Cut & Paste?

Is there a "correct" way to cut & paste text off this message board. I have long had a database with a memo field where I copy scripts and tips from this board to save for future reference. Please see the attached text file where I copied a thread today. Note that it includes a lot of garbage text and the functions are wrapped, not formatted. Is there a "secret" way of copying?

If you want to preserve the thread, related attachments, etc. I would suggest you open the thread and do a File, Save As...

Peter, you got garbage because you highlighted EVERYTHING including the user information over on the left. Just highlight the text you want to cut & paste and it will be fine.

Thanks Stan. But that will only save the thread as an html document. I want text that I can paste into a memo field.

    Aaron,

When I drag the mouse down, beginning at the second post, all the "garbage" is automatically highlighted. To avoid that, I would have to cut & paste each post individually. Tedious to say the least. Any other ideas?

You can click on "Thread Tools" and then "Show Printable Version" to view a version that is a little closer to plain text.

This is a great thread. I do the same thing, I have an ALpha 5 app that I use to keep a database of issues and resolutions, and I do the same thing with cut and paste.

Wouldn't it be better to store the URL to the thread instead of the full thread contents? Not only do you avoid wasting storage by duplicating data, by revisitng the thread you will see any additional info that may have been posted.

Perhaps for some, Lenny. But if the link disapears, or if you loose connectivity...
The database is quick. I have an item field, and just enter the topic and there it is...

I did that for years. Now all is lost since moving to the new board. ie. http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...68&thread=5757
