Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    help with extracting data

    Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can extract a specfic line item(defined by its chahracter name) using the sys_id_enum() function and place it as a variable in a script

    #2
    Lou,

    Not sure exactly what you want to do so I can not offer specifics. I suggest you look in the help file under "List Processing", for some ideas. Otherwise give us some more detail as to what you need.

      I am trying to create a bridge script that will extract the name & patient number which is located in the title bar of another program. Once I have it place it into a variable & use it to go to the specific patient info which is located in alpha 5.

        Lou,

        In the interactive window of A5 type ?sys_id_enum()

        Give me the exact window title that you want to extract and then I can possibly help you.

          I would like to extract xrayvision & subsequently use the patient #(ie 115701) to go to that patient in A5. The patient ID # is 42 spaces from the left.

            Lou,

            Based on what you have told me the following code should work:

            Code:
            list = sys_id_enum()
            x = word_num(word(list,1," - "),"XrayVision")
            vname = word(word(list,x,crlf()),3," - ")
            Vnumber = word(word(list,x,crlf()),4," - ")
            In your screen shot, vname would be "Zanavich, Mark" and vnumber would be "115701".

            If you wanted the word "xrayVision" then add:

            Code:
            vtitle = word(word(list,x,crlf()),1," - ")
            Hope this helps.

              can you explain the parameters for the word function. When I looked it up it only had two parameters and it returns a logical field. (word=(search string, result string). your function shows three parameters.

              This is the result I get in the interactive window
              list = sys_id_enum()
              x = word_num(word(list,1," - "),"XrayVision")

              Vnumber = word(word(list,x,crlf()),4," - ")
              ? vnumber
              = ""

                I enclosed a copy of the interactive window. Why does win_num =0 when xray vision is up & running?

                Interactive window:

                list = sys_id_enum()
                ? word_num(word(list,1," - "),"XrayVision")
                = 0.000000

                  Lou,

                  Sorry, I used the wrong function for this. Try:

                  Code:
                  list = sys_id_enum()
                  x = word_number_get(list,"XrayVision",crlf())
                  vname = word(word(list,x,crlf()),3," - ")
                  Vnumber = word(word(list,x,crlf()),4," - ")
