Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I still have the same problem

However like I said before the CSS directory and files upload but that's it. Site works, can FTP other stuff but nothing else will upload in AFV7.

Lenny you might be able to anser this I've already asked elsewhere but would love a simple answer.

    >>So how does this work? >[PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\data\foldername
    >>is it! >[PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\data\getread if so it won't work.
    >>can you see the problem here?

Pete can you log into the host with another FPT program. With the information given, you should have a ftp address, username and password.
This should get you to the site and then you can see the directory structure.

I still think that you are missing part of the address. The other thread had my file name and my folder is about 4 levels below the root. It still seems strange that the host would give you a folder in the root directory. Go back to your host for more specifics. That's their job.

Yes, c:\data\getread is your data folder on the AlphaFiveOnline server. What about it will not work for you?

There is no passive mode FTP at this time.

I'm a bit confused Bob, but that's been known to happen from time to time. You said you published but you can't upload. Part of publishing is the upload, so I'm a bit lost here.

I'm not publishing, I'm trying to publish. I can't publish anything because apparently the first thing it tries to upload is a5_application.a5i and it looks like it cant be found so the message box just sits there until it times out. It does create an empty file on the host.

It doesn't matter what I try to publish the result is always the same.

Like I said previously this just started a couple of days ago. Is a5_application.a5i an existing system file or template that I might accidently erased or is it generated when you publish

a5_application.a5i is generated during the publishing process (I think I already said that above), you will not find it on the local host. If that file is appearing on the host, a5_application.a5i is not the issue since it is getting properly generated and uploaded to the host.

If you use some other FTP program, can you upload to your host without passive mode?

Sorry Lenny, I have attached a copy of a5_application.a5i that gets published and which then I have to delete off the server for the app to work.

I had to zip it so I could attach it.

I could not upload any files in one of my apps. It would look like they uploaded but when I looked on the server there was nothing. I then opened the Project.settings file and found this line <lPassive=.F.>. I changed it to <lPassive=.T.> and bingo everything worked fine.

Thanks for the clue. I didn't know about passive active modes so had to do so exploring and found a mention of problems with Firewalls.

I installed a new program on Sunday that requested I shut down the virus checker before installing. On restart both my firewall and windows firewall got enabled and it was the windows firewall that was screwing things up.

It works fine now. I guess the problem was not recieving commands back from the host so it would just time out.

Thanks again. and sorry for all the trouble this caused.

                          Bob
