Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Event Format

    I am having problems getting my code to work in the event portion of the grid. I have 5 logical fields that are displayed on the grid as check boxes. I am trying to check to see if multiple check boxes are checked. Here is the code I currently have but it keeps coming up with syntax errors.

    Code:
    function CanDeleteRecord as v (DataSubmitted as P, Args as p, PageVariables as p, Result as P)
    with PageVariables
    [COLOR="Red"]IF(DataSubmitted.PERSPOORLOG.and.(DataSubmitted.PERSFAIRLOG.or.DataSubmitted.PERSGOODLOG.or.DataSubmitted.PERSVGOODLOG.or.DataSubmitted.PERSEXCELLOG)) then[/COLOR]
    Result.Cancel = .f.
    Result.ErrorHTML = "Multiple Selections in the Personal Rating"
    end with
    end function
    The error is that I do not have "end with" as you can see it is there...

    Phil, please take a look at this thread for a quick lesson on working with code blocks on the message board. by using a code block, we don't have to scroll side-to-side just to read your post and your code formatting still gets preserved.

      If a checkbox is not checked, the browser does not send anything back to the server. In this case, the variable that the checkbox represents will not exist. You should make sure each of the values exist before trying to test them.

        Lenny, thanks for the tip on entering the code. I never knew that existed.

        Can you give me a head start with some code so I can see how to check if a check box has been checked.

          If you have a checkbox PERSPOORLOG on your component, and that checkbox is checked, the variable will exist. If it is not checked, it will not exist. You can test the existence of a variable using eval_valid(). som in your event code, eval_valid("DataSubmitted.PERSPOORLOG") whould return .t. if the checkbox was checked, .f. if it was not.

          Alternatively, you can dim the variable and give it a default value, such as
          Code:
          dim DataSubmitted.PERSPOORLOG as C = default ""
          When the code above is executed, DataSubmitted.PERSPOORLOG will be created if it does not exist and the value "" will be assigned to it if it does not already have a value.

            I see what is going on, but hopefully one last question. When evaluating DataSubmitted.PERSPOORLOG or any similar variable, do I code as if this variable is LOGICAL or is it a CHARACTER field from the grid? If it is a character field, what is the VALUE that I am checking for? Would it be TRUE or FALSE?

              Phil,

              If it is valid and you wan to check if it is true, You can use code like

              if convert_type(datasubmitted.perspoolog,"L") = .t.
              something
              end if
