Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Record jumping problem

Ok...this is going to sound weird, so I apologize in advance.

Here's the problem. Finally narrowed it down to the following. User1 opens a tabbed form and starts working with record #150 (for example). While user1 is filling in the fields on the tabbed form, User2 opens up the tabbed form and starts record#151. Now, User1 suddenly loses all info and her screen flashes and swqitches to record#151 along with user2.

Now, I thought this problem was fixed, but I don't know what's causing it.

When a user opens a new form to start inputting information I have it assign the record # and then SAVE IT to keep people from duplicating it. When a different user opens up the form, it should create a new record On Init assign the # and then save it so they can have a unique number. I don't understand why having a separate user open the form would cause the existing user to switch. We have a license to have 3 active users and it's running on 3 different machines. Generally speaking only 2 people at a time are using it, so that shouldn't really be the problem.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

    Thanks

    Jason

    Jason, 2 ideas for you.

    1) if possible see if the problem occurs using the default form for your set on each machine. If it does, then study the field rules for the tables involved, especially any that are tied to field rule events. if you cannot replicate the problem when the users work with the default form, then study the data entry form events more closely. Something, somewhere is causing the record pointer in the current table to move on User1's machine.

    2) search message board forums a5v7 through a5v4 carefully for threads dealing with "jumping", "switching" or "disappearing" records. Your situation rings a faint bell, so maybe it's been discussed and solved already. (or maybe my memory is playing tricks...?)

Ok...I went back and checked some of my action scripting and strangely enough that's where the problem was. Not sure exactly what caused it, but I moved most of it from the button that opens the form to the On Init section of the form and that seems to have solved the problem for now. Although I really can't say why. Thanks for the input!
