Appointment Scheduler

I am very new at creating relational databases. I have used Alpha Five V6 and have purchased 7 but certainly do not have any level of expertise. However I have been put upon by colleagues to attempt to create an appointment scheduler that looks like a giant calendar. Arrows on the month field would bring up each successive month while clicking on a day would bring up a window with all the classes scheduled for that day including the teacher and students. Classes could run from 1/2 hour to 2 hours long. Classes would be limited to 1 student, a couple or a group. Groups could be limited to 10 or 20 depending on the class. I'm at a loss of where to start. Thank you for any help.

The advice at the top of this forum recommends using the Search feature, and it's good advice here.

Scheduling and calendaring gets complicated; few people have really done it well.

But start with the Search feature.

As Steve pointed out, that can be a tough thing to create even if your experienced and knowledgable w. relational dbs. My suggestion would be to look at the Addin Calendar sold on Alphas' main web site. It might get you half way to where you want to be.

Some tihings you need to consider (in no particular order)
a table for the classes, a table for the students and/or groups, a table for the teachers, and maybe even a table for the rooms. Depending on the complexity, you might need one for time blocks. Among other considerations is the nature of the time blocks -- can you have four 30 minute time blocks run concurrently with a 2 hour time block?
As Steve said, it can get very tricky.
I seem to remember that there was a scheduler application written for version 3 or 4 that was posted at the learn alpha website a few years ago. You might look there.
