Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

start up form on runtime v7 not working

The startup form on my app will not start on a shadowed database using runtime 7. It starts with a5v7 after I activated it but not in shadowed runtime. If i run not shadowed it works fine. Does runtime need to be activated??? I also downloaded the last patch.

R/T does not have to be activated.

I tried to repeat the problem by creating a shadowed version of AlphaSports. That worked fine.

If you create a shadowed version of Alphasports, can you repeat this problem?

                a5v7 r/t not working

I have found that any db I create in v7 will not shadow.

These are the things I have done.

                Un-installed A5v7 full ver & reinstalled it.
                Reinstalled a5v7beta_full_patch

                Un-installed A5v7 r/t & reinstalled it.
                Reinstalled a5v7beta_rt_patch.

On the shadow db the startup forms do not work.

Refresh shadow gives the following msg:
                Script:a5_refresh_shadowv6 line:166
the system cannot find the path specified.
                c:\\comp1a\acer(c)\auction_vc7a\auction_vc7a.alb

I did shadow alphasports and that worked fine. I originally though it was my current db but it looks like any db create on this local computer.

I just know this is going to be something stupid.

                thanks,
                jb

i opened your app and created a shadow db with no problem.
i also had no problem doing a refresh shadow from the shadow db.

the problem is not with your database. there must be something else about your machine that explains the problem.

i also tried putting your database in a folder called c:\\comp1a\acer(c)\auction_vc7a\ but that also worked for me.

                    A5v7 R/t Not Working

I have a solution. If I map the drive before I Optimize then problem goes away. I just knew it would be something very simple. Thanks John in alpha install support.

John, I'm suspicious of the folder name "acer(c)" in the path to your database. Is this legal ? When time permits I recommend you move the database (or put a copy in) a different path, which does not include parentheses ... would not surprise me if the problems you're having go away.

                          Tom,

I was thinking the same thing. But, when I when to change the name Winxp/pro automatically puts them back in. I don't know how to stop it.

                          Thanks

                          John
