Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem With Subforms

    Hello All,

I am new to Alpha Five so this may be a dumb question. I have a table called "Store Info" and a table call "Parent Co". I have created a form for the "Store Info" and would like place the "Parent Co" form as a subform in the "Store Info" form. However when I drag the subform tool onto the "Store Info" form it will only allow me to select the "Store Info" table. I have tried several things and cannot get it to work. Could someone please help. I like Alpha Five with what I have learn so far, but need to get past this.

    BTW I am using V7.

    Thanks for any help.
    Stan

It is not clear from your post that you have created a set with Store Info as the parent and Parent Co as the child. Per the documentation...

Note: When you place a subform on a form in the Alpha Five Form Editor, you are limited to selecting the subform from other forms that are based on the same table or set as the form you are editing.
As a side note I would recommend you not use spaces in naming anything whild working in Alpha. The general usage is to use an underscore in a name if you find it necessary to separate a name into "words", like Store_Info and Parent_Co.

Thanks for the reply. I have created a set with the Store_Info as the parent and Parent_Co as the child. But as stated I only see the Store_Info form when creating the subform.

      Thanks

In the control panel, forms tab, right click on the "Store Info" form and choose "Copy to", then select the set that you have created. When you edit this new form you should be able to select the child table when creating a subform.

Thanks, it works. Since I had to copy the form to the set, I assume Alpha Five does on automatically reference all the forms associated with the tables in the set. I will have to copy each form or create it in the set. Is this correct.

          Thanks
          Stan

You can copy a form as described from a table to a set where the table is the parent of the set, without having to modify the form. If the table upon which the form is based is a child table, you can still do it but you will have some editing to do.

Hi Stan, how can I edit the subform - change the stylesheets, text format, and rearrange labels & fields.
