    Default Audit Trail Anomaly

Just tried to implement A5's built in audit trail using the following xbasic from the help file.

    'Date Created: 22-Dec-2005 05:01:12 PM
    'Last Updated: 22-Dec-2005 05:11:55 PM
    'Created By : User
    'Updated By : User
    Addin.run("audit_trail")
    addin.run("audit_trail_deleteRecord")

The change portion works perfectly. Unfortunately it also indicates that the record was DELETED. See attached audit trail listing.

    V6 Build 1555-2051

    Anyone experienced this?

    Thanks, John

    Using the Audit Trail Feature

Alpha Five writes out an ASCII file which is an audit trail of all changes made to a record. The audit trail shows the date and time of the change, the original value in the field, and the new value in the field.

To turn on the audit trail feature, you put the command: Addin.run("audit_trail") in the record's CanSaveRecord event. Also, if you want to keep track of deleted records, put Addin.run("audit_trail_deleteRecord") in the record's CanDeleteRecord event.
Given these instructions from the Help file, it's not clear to me why you would have both statements in a single script ?

Are you under the impression that "audit_trail_deleteRecord" is supposed to delete something?

    Tom

Was just about to delete this post. I had mistakenly placed the code on the form CAN SAVE. Re reading the help, I see it must be in the field rules.

Think I'll try again. Sorry to waste your time.

    Thanks, John

    Hi, John.

No problem. I've done the same thing. In fact it was by making the mistake over and over that I finally learned the difference between the CanSave form event and the CanSaveRecord field rule event. -- tom
