Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Adding a record with lookup, goes to first record in Parent list!!

    I try to explain: I have two sets, first one is Month_head -> Date_head -> Outs_head -> Outs
    second one is: Year -> Month -> Date_head -> Outs_head -> Outs

In Outs_head, I have a lookup for Clients

When I use the first set, and I add a client name in Outs_head table, the record in Date_head table, remains ok, that means it rest in de date I am adding a record with a new client.

But, If I use the second set, I am in the 4th record of the month (for example) in Date_head table, when I add a record in outs_head and use the lookup table for clients, then at the very moment to open the lookup table of clients, the selector in the Date_head table goes to the first record of the table.

I remake the set many times, but is still presenting the same problem.\

The only difference between both sets are in the top = first one month_head then an exactly part (Date_head -> Outs_head -> Outs), second = Year -> Month then the same part of first set (Date_head -> Outs_head -> Outs)

I hope I was clear enough.
    Could somebody help me?

    Juan

I don't remember ever seeing this problem.

Enter a few records into the set which is giving your trouble, but do it using the default form for the set. If the problem does not happen again that's an indicator that the trouble lies in your custom data entry form. Otherwise, if the trouble happens with the default form, too, that's a signal the problem lies in your field rules.

Are you using vers 4 or vers 4.5 of Alpha Five?

      Hi Tom,
Yes, I tried to use a default form, thinking in this way I could find the problem, but I have the same results.

If I understood well, then the problem is in the field rules, ok?

But, I cannot understand, because both sets have the same field rules for the common portion:

      Year
      Month
      Date Head
      Outs head
      Outs

      Month head
      Date Head
      Outs head
      Outs

And is in the portion of Date head to Outs where the problem is presented and they have the same field rules.

If you want I can send you the files, to watch closer the problem

      I am using 4.5 version

        Juan,

How are the tables linked in the set? What is the linking expression?

          Hi Tom,
I dont know if I understand correctly your question:

Do you mean which fields are used to related tables in the set?

And the linking expression, I did not understand also.

I can send you the screens of the set, or the set and the tables involved, what do you prefer?

          Thank you,
          Juan
