Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Amyuni Printer Driver Not Activated??

I've just installed A5V7 single user, and have not yet activated it. (I wish to get the activation key mailed to me so that I can record it in case I need it for a reinstall, and am afraid that the 'internet' activation option will not reveal the key prior to activating the software.)

I'm trying to print a report to a pdf file using the newly installed Alpha Five Printer and the Amyuni printer driver. This driver apparently requires activation itself, as I get a message, "Printer not activated, error code -30" when I try to print the report using the Alpha Five Printer.

When I check the Alpha Five Printer Properties, I can see that the Amyuni driver is version 2.50c, 'Licensed to Alpha Software.' Clicking on the '...' box to the right opens a small window entitled 'License,' with two fields to be filled in: 'Licensed to' and 'Activation code.'

Does anyone know what needs to be entered in these two boxes so that the Amyuni driver can be used? Must one activate Alpha Five V7 for this driver to work properly? (If so, how can one evaluate the driver if one is evaluating A5V7 and has not yet activated it??)

    Many thanks for any help!

You don't need to do anything with the printer drivers. To create a PDF, you don't print to the driver, you use Save As from the report.

Also if you activate online, you can simply backup the file activation.key that gets placed in your Alpha Five program folder. This file is just plain text so you can open it in any text editor (ie Notepad) to view it or print it. Just don't make any changes to it, or your copy of Alpha Five will no longer be activated.

        Aaron,

Thank you! I had a copy of Primo PDF, a free PDF printer driver, on my system, and it works by "printing" to the Primo PDF "printer" placed in the Printers and Faxes folder. As the A5V7 install placed a "Alpha Five Printer" in that folder, I mistakenly assumed it worked the same way. I don't know how I missed the Adobe symbols at the top of the print preview page!

By the way, I see that there are other 'save' options, such as saving as an RTF file, which I tried, and it worked very nicely. (Required a bit of page resizing, but the fonts all came through beautifully.) It's great to have the flexibility of saving to other formats!

Thank you again for your prompt, informative reply. I hope it will serve other "blind" users, as well as myself!

          Lenny,

I was hoping someone would pick up on my remark! Thank you! Internet activation is preferable to mail activation, and I'm glad Alpha Software decided to implement it in that fashion.
