Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Clint,
    What do you mean by "restore"? Nothing about the database, table, or whatever will open in either V6 or V7...

      I'll paste the code here, let me know if that works out.

      <p>
      <form method=post action="PasswordRequestPart1.a5w" TARGET="_blank" name="foo2"><button id=button_adv2 name=button_adv2 onclick="document.forms['foo2'].submit()">Email My
      Password</button></form></p>

      The key is the "TARGET="_blank"

      That's the part that opens a new page.

        Thank you, Clint. I'll play with it and let you know. I so appreciate your (and the others) efforts!

          Clint,

          It wants to work, but my ignorance about code is preventing me from being able to effectively edit your code. The only thing I can decipher is to replace your page name with mine. This is what I end up with:

          <form method=post action="Auth_Prsn_Pg.a5w" TARGET="_blank" name="foo2"><button id=button_adv2 name=button_adv2 onclick="document.forms['foo2'].submit()">Email My
          Password</button></form></p>

          The page that I want to open is Auth_Prsn_Pg.a5w. The page that the button is placed on is Main_Page.a5w.

          I need to know what you have named "foo2" so that I can replace it with the correct name on my freeform. I believe that button_adv2 is the name of your button, which I can leave as is, for now, and rename mine later. I have no clue what .submit() relates to - something before it? Something after it? Or, is it saying to submit returning a password?

          I don't have a password, either - but I'm not sure exactly what to remove from your code for my code.

          Thank you!
          Wanda

            Here is another method that doesn't require a <form> tag.

            Code:
            <input type="button" name="Button" value="Click Here" onClick="window.location = 'nextpage.a5w'" >
            This will open 'nextpage.a5w' in the same browser window. If you want to open the page in a new window, this will work

            Code:
            <input type="button" name="Button" value="Click Here" onClick="window.open( 'nextpage.a5w')" >
            That is an oversimplification of window.open(), and it won't work if popups are blocked, but it is another option

                Try this:

                Remove buttons already there and save page to clear code.

                Drop a *new* blank advanced button on your main page.

                Then go to source and make the source code look like mine with the single exception that you'll use "Auth_Prsn_Pg.a5w" instead of my page.

                It should work then.

                  Jerry's button works

                  Jerry,
                  Wow - your method works for me :))) I will forge ahead, however, so that I don't have to worry about pop-up blockers affecting the performance.

                  Thank you so much - it's a great beginning!

                  (Now, I have to get those hair transplants and extensions!)

                  Clint has more specifics for me that I will try, now :)

                    Hey Clint - it DOES work :) (the button, that is). It didn't end up in the right place in my table, but I can deal with that, I think - I hope. It lost its <form open tag symbol - you know, the one to the left of the button when one first inserts it.

                    Also, it's great that the Back button is disabled, as I want to place a button on the Auth_Prsn_Pge that when clicked will take the user back to the page where the button is invoked.

                    Thank you, Clint - and everyone who stood beside me through this!

                    Sincerely,
                    Wanda

                      I'm glad it worked out. It's nice to be able to offer some help for a change, I am generally the one seeking help myself :D

                        Doesn't that feel good, Clint?! I helped a handful of people with A5v6 and a bit prior to that, but not at all there, yet, with providing help on the WAS. I'll be right there with you when that day comes, though.

                        Thank you so very much again for your time and persistence and willineness to help see me through this - and thank you to everyone else who helped :)
