Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Button on one page to go to another?

    I'm creating a freeform and want to place three (or more) buttons on it to go to different pages. How do I do this?

    Thank you,
    Wanda

      Hi Lenny,
      Are you implying that I need to write code to accomplish creating a button to switch focus from one form to another?

        Use WEB help or your CHM:
        Code:
        Redirecting to Another Page
          If you want to redirect the user to a different page, you will need to write some JavaScript code.
          The script can be placed anywhere on the page, but it is best to place it in the <head> section so that it runs as soon as the page begins to load. This is a typical example:
                <head>
         <script language="javascript"><!--
         location.replace("pagename.html")
         //-->
         </script>
         ...other head section stuff (Title, Description,etc.)...
         </head>
           pagename.html can be any relative or absolute URL, just like a hyperlink URL.
          The use of Javascript's replace function causes the new page to replace the current page in the browser's Back button's History list. If a visitor then clicks the Back button to go back to where she or he came from, she or he doesn't go back to the page with the auto-redirect but, instead, goes to the page before that. It avoids the annoying occurrence of the Back button taking a person back the auto-redirecting page, which immediately takes him or her forward again.

            Yes. Something like:
            HTML Code:
            <form action="page2.a5w">
                <input type="submit" value="Click me to go to page 2">
            </form>

              Peter, can you show me how to find this in the Webhelp? While it works, it is far from the best technique to be used so I'd like to update the documentation.

                  Peter,
                  So, is there not an easier way, built-in to the WAS, v7? If not, I'll try what you are suggesting, but to date have not even been able to successfully edit any sort of code. I HATE CODE!

                  Also, part of your reply compounds my problem. You wrote, "The use of Javascript's replace function causes the new page to replace the current page in the browser's Back button's History list. If a visitor then clicks the Back button to go back to where she or he came from, she or he doesn't go back to the page with the auto-redirect but, instead, goes to the page before that. " (No, I'm not sure how to use the Quote reply...yet, anyway)

                  Why would the user, after clicking the Back button, be directed back to the original page (as one would expect), but then suffer being brought forward again? This doesn't make sense unless the button is clicked again. So, if one clicks a button and goes to another page, then clicks the Back button, he/she will forever bounce back forward as if the button to the redirected page has been clicked again? Huh?

                  Thank you,
                  Wanda

                    Thanks, Lenny. This:

                    <form action="page2.a5w">
                    <input type="submit" value="Click me to go to page 2">
                    </form>

                    looks a lot easier to play with. I'll give it a whirl!

                      The javascript redirect is not really applicable to what you are trying to do anyway. It is a technique to be used for a different situation, which is why I want to update the documentation that Peter quoted.

                          Where do I put this?

                          Does it go between the Head tags, or does it go in the free form, Advanced Button, below </Body>? Or somewhere else?

                            It would go right in the freeform, which is where you said you were working. I don't remmber if that pops up a WYSIWYG editor or not, but if it does you would switch to the source tab and paste it anywhere between <body> and </body>

                              Lady, Gents,

                              Would it be possible to accomplish the same by defining three Calculated fields in the component, like button1, button2, button3.

                              For each buttonfield, define:

                              Display Settings: control type LINK.
                              Link Properties: Display what in link: Static text (like: goto page X, etc).
                              Link address type: Computed from field in the grid.
                              Link address: pageX.a5w

                              freeformat the buttonfields where you want to have them in the freeform,

                              Save component, Save page...without coding html ?

                              regards, Ron
