Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Missing Features In A5v7

I have attached some images to show some helpful features that was in V5 & V6 but are currently missing in V7. Where these features intentionally removed or are these Version 7 bugs.

In V5 & V6 Users will see these popups shown below respectively when declaring a variable in any script editing window. This feature is missing in V7. The images show below are from V5.

    Version 5 Images:

In V5 & V6 Users are able to select table open mode by pressing CTRL+DOWN ARROW. This feature is missing in V7. The image shown below is from V5.

    Auto Complete

Check View, Settings, Auto Help .... are auto complete boxes checked?

      Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I looked at the Auto help boxes under view settings. By default all boxes were checked and they remain checked. These missing features are possibly some bugs in version 7. They are nice features for developers who are new to alpha & speeds up application development for everyone. I hope the A5 team will fix it in the next build. Thanks.

        Auto Complete Problem Confirmed

On second look ... the first time I just did a quick test of auto complete and test of boxes check and not. I saw the auto completed working and was able to turn it off. So I thought that that was most likely your problem.

This time I did your examples and these did not work in V7 but do in V5. So at least for me, I confirm what you are seeing. Not sure when this may have happened but I cant believe that no one brought this up before. I wonder if we missed something.

To report a bug, use the option off the help menu and submit a bug report.

Hoping that it is picked up off the messageboard is not an option.

Attention Aarron Brown & A5 Team,
I have downloaded & installed the lates patch Build 3960-3018. The bug I reported on this thread was not fixed. Was it missed or what. This is a good feature for any A5 user mostly those learning A5 for the first time. I hope it will be fixed in the next build. Thanks.

I'm reading your reply and interpreting that you did not send a bug report into Alpha. Hoping that Alpha techs pick bug reports out of the messageboard doesn't work.

Did you submit an official bug report?

Did you ever send a bug report as Al suggested? If so, we never recieved it. If not, as he explained, we may not know about an issue. Looking at this thread right now is the first time I have ever seen this issue mentioned. Until 30 seconds ago, we were unaware that such a problem existed. It is now on our bug list, however you should use the Send a Bug Report feture in the future to let us know of any problems such as this.

                    Lenny,

This has been discussed before by others. But you're right, someone should have reported it.

                      Hi AL & Lenny,
I did not send a bug report as AL suggested. I had hoped that the A5 team will pick the bug report from this message board as they picked up the read only %R% flag bug I reported on this message board in January courtesy of Aarron Brown. Next time I will send an offical bug report as AL suggested. Thanks.

                        Re: Missing Features In A5v7

I have just started using my ver7 and noticed that a feature in the code editor is missing that I am sure I was able to use before. Wasn't there a feature to highlight and delete a portion of the script from the cursor either down or up? Also wasn't it possible before to edit the Code Editor toolbar? Having to now remove all the action script code when converting my scripts would be nice if this feature were there. I have updated with the lastest patch - do I have to update with the previous patches first?

Only in the interactive window - lucky thing too, otherwise I'd be wiping out my own code all the time!

Not that I'm aware of - although I once put this request in the Wishlist.

                            Hi Peter,
Actually there is but it is not in the Code Editor but in the Interactive Window. It is definitely a wishlist item for me.
