Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    nav bar highlighting wrong buttons

    This is really throwing me. I have a navigation bar with css set to highlight the button that is currently pressed. So if (on my graphic below) HUSBAND is selected, that button is highlighted. All buttons work perfectly - except the three most recently added buttons. That is, any new nodes I add do not properly highlight when the button is selected. There are three buttons with two different types of failures:

    General button - does not highlight when pressed
    Attorney button - actually highlights the Husband button when pressed
    Notes / Deeds - does not highlight when pressed

    I've done all the obvious tests - changing the CSS, adding/removing/moving nodes, changing node parameters (button highlight rules, etc.). In terms of the HTML and Xbasic tabs in the Nav System Builder, I see no difference between buttons that work, and the ones that fail.

    Resolved - I had changed the names of the grid component the nav bar was pointing to. I had updated the nav itself, but there is code in the A5W page that tell it which component should render the button 'pressed'. In this case, I removed, then reinserted the nav component.

      Steve, what's that code? I'm having a similar problem.

      P.S. Very professional looking button scheme.

        Like I said, I took the uninformed way out and re-inserted the nav component. But I am sure it is the following in the A5W file:

        with tmpl_tr_nav
        location = ""
        componentName = "tr_nav"
        style_name = "ATS"
        end with

        Look at your "location =" tag. It probably says something other than the name of the a5w page you are opening with that button. Change it to just null like above and it will highlight when pressed, regardless of what page you are opening...I think.

          To highlight a specific tab with a page open, the

          location=

          must contain the text from the navigation tab you want to show highlighted. For example, using your tabs, if you have a page open and want to show the 'Cash/Securities' tab highlighted, the override code on the page would look like this
          Code:
          with tmpl_tr_nav
          	location = "Cash/Securities"
          	componentName = "tr_nav"
          	style_name = "ATS"
          end with
          If location="", then no tab will be highlighted.

            In my case, every page has the same button highlighted, but there is no "location" tag. I'll try inserting one. Thanks!

              Peter, to do it 'right' for at least one component, go to the a5w page and remove the navigation component, save the page, and then reinsert the nav component. One of the options when you insert the nav is 'selected page'. Set that to the page that the button points to. That will put in the proper code, which you can then mimic. Jerry's correct, you have to have the name such as:

              location = "Cash/Securities"

              (Although I'm pretty sure the location of my cash/securities is 'elsewhere_undefined'.)

                Ok, thanks for the tip. I think that was the answer I was rooting around for.
