Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

First Report Detail Line Different Size

This is one of those "I'll throw it out there in hopes someone has actually experienced this" things...

I've never come across this before and I cannot duplicate the problem on any of my machines, but a client is telling me that the first lineitem of an invoice report prints out in a larger font than succeeding lines. As designed the report is set to print TimesRoman 11. The only twist in the design of the report is that the description field is an RTF in which a calc field is imbedded. The other 4 fields are regular field drops. The client gets the behavior also when previewing.

I've refreshed the client's dictionary files with my published files and the problem remains which suggests there is something going on with the client's computer. Apparently there is no other strange printing behavior in other Alpha apps or other software like Word.

Has anyone a clue here? TIA.

We've had some issues with RTF printing oddly. In a letter that has calc fields imbedded in the RTF body of the letter, ONLY the calc fields (which are bolded) came out the proper size, all others were printing in a 4 font. When we bolded the entire letter, all was OK. The typeface was also times new roman.

Try fiddling with the font, bold, and size. I'll bet that it can be fixed. If all else fails, try arial.

      Hi Tom -

Thanks. I'll try different fonts and sizes--it's sorta shooting in the dark since I can't reproduce the behavior.

Just curious, was your letter behavior consistent on all workstations?

        Yes, that made it easy.

          Changing font/size provided the solution

As a followup I changed from a Times New Roman/11 font to a Tahoma/10 and the lineitems ALL print consistently. The problem I feel is rooted in an XP Pro operating system setting of some kind. Fortunately it was a quick fix -- thanks again, Tom.

I personally think it may be some odd combination of RTF and Times New Roman in V5. I didn't have this problem in v1, and as you saw, changing to tahoma made it go away. Times New Roman is the default font for RTF. I've had the problem with multiple operating systems, so I don't think it is an XP issue.

              Tom -

Oops. I didn't mean to suggest it was an XP issue -- just something peculiar with the client's operating system which happens to be XP. The invoice printed fine with Times Roman on MY 98, 2000 and XP Pro systems. My A5v5 RTF's have a system font default of Tahoma, 8. This is a selectable property. What I didn't try was to set the default RTF system font to Times Roman.
