Default Migrating V6 Files to V7

After installing my V7 upgrade and activating, I was presented with a dialog asking if I wanted to migrate my files to V7. I declined, since there are still a couple of V5 systems that will be upgraded by the end of this week.

The dialog was not presented again.

Question is: is this important, and if so, how would I migrate the old files? I searched and found an answer that was written by an Aaron Brown, where he stated just opening the forms, reports, etc will do that. Does that do it completely?

BTW, as this is an upgrade, I installed it over the V6 files, same folder. I did that when I went from V5 to V6 with no problems, except that certain code snippets didn't seem to work on the V5 stations.

The migrating that you are refering to are settings for Alpha, not databases or tables.

It might be convenient to have done, but can be done manually later.

    Things that are migrated are:
Recent files usually is not a big deal, but
addins or email setting could have been migrated if they are used....

I normally don't overwrite a previous version by installing in the same program folder. You can run different versions on the same machine if you use different folders....

Default Using V7 on V5 database

I have been asked by a client, for whom I created a database in A5V5, to make some small amendments to report layouts etc. Can I do this using V7 and send it to him with V7 runtime, or must I do the amendments in V5 and just send the amended database files etc back to him to install on his V5 runtime.

If I make the amendments in V7, and send the DB files back to him, will the system run OK with his pre-existing V5 runtime program and database data files.

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    Jeremy:
I have done just that - used v7 to make changes and my users are on v5 - and it's my suggestion you don't do that. I don't write Xbasic from scratch, but using the genies has caused a couple of incompatibilities in v5 when I use v7 to make the changes.
