This is an email I received from my friend & co-developer Jay Talbott after our Wednesday User Group Meeting:
Last evening, the New York City Alpha Users' Group met for our monthly meeting. Dr. Peter Wayne demonstrated how Alpha 5 v. 7 can use an ActiveX control to manipulate a scanner and create pdf files for electronic storage. He also showed how Alpha can create directories, copy, move, rename and delete files.
I was actually excited to go to work today to try some of the things he discussed last evening. While I did not need the ActiveX control, the ability to rename, copy, move and access files will be of great help to us as we go toward a paperless system in our office. This will not only save us time when we go to access the documents, it will also prevent documents from being mis-filed.
If you live within 50 miles of the city, I would urge you to take advantage of this great resource. A couple of us come from near Philadelphia to attend the meeting, and last night proved that it was worth it. My friend Barry, with whom I travel, always says that one can learn something at every meeting, no matter what the topic.
Please contact Barry Rochford, president of the NYC Alpha Users' Group at [email protected] if you have any questions. He will put you on the monthly notice email list if you request it.
