Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Upload table with different name

    Evening

Always seems I need to post for help on a Friday evening!

Love this A5 website capability. Gave us more options and is way easier than creating password dropdowns in html and way too many pages of photos, etc.

We are in the midst of photographing high school cap & gowns. Shoot about 200 students in a week. Upload their thumbs and images, about 20 - 30 each student, each evening. Using their school and a password as a filter to show the proper student.
After 4 days, we're uploading about 110 megs. That keeps that particular school from being accessible for an hour plus while the data is being uploaded.

Looking through the forum and the help files I can't find the info I need.

Can I send up the table through a different profile to a temp folder on our website, and then using an ftp program delete yesterday's data files (dbf ddm fpt etc) and then copy the new data files from the temp folder to the proper folder. Then that particular school section would only be down for a very short time.

Or!!!, is there going to be path issues ? Or something else?
    Anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks
    Duane

The time it took me to type this up in a way that it might make sense, I should have just tried it ..

A couple approaches occur to me:

    1. Upload the data as a seperate table to be appended, then append once you get it there.

    2. Upload the data as seperate table, then re-name it. I don't like this approach as much because of potential index and data dictionary problems.

      Thanks Steve

I had first thought of the table renaming, as apparent by the title of the thread, and then had the other idea of uploading to a temp folder. Which I just tried.
Didn't work; nothing in the temp folder.. musn't have done something right!

I would love to append to the table. Would save tons of time and the existing data wouldn't be messed with.

If you could direct me to where that information is, I would do that. I can't seem to find any info on how to append to a website table.

      Thanks
      Duane

        But wait....

Well, I stumbled across the "Howto...." section of the help file and saw you can append a live table with another live one.
I'll give this a try and get back with questions on how to really do this.

          Morning

          Well that worked just great.
Once I figured out to use the Alias as the path to the dbf, and once I got past hurdles that turned out to be quite simple.
The photo viewing tables are always ready to view now, no more uploading of the whole table. The actual append of 400 records with an fpt of 38 MB takes about 5 seconds after 14 minutes of uploading data.

Thanks for pointing out that this could be done

I'm glad you figured it out. It's not that hard once you know the right direction. Feels good to have solved this, too, hmm?
