Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dynamic: tmpl_menu.xml = <<%xml%

    i have a navigation system component 'menu'

    in the a5w page i like to build the menu dynamically

    Situation now:
    tmpl_menu.xml = <<%xml%
    <navsys name="menu" text="Menu">
    <item type="1" text="Customers" url="customers.a5w" />
    <item type="1" text="Settings" url="setting.a5w" />
    </navsys>
    %xml%

    is it possible to build the code between <<%xml% and %xml% dynamically ?

    i have experimented to construct the code as a Character string but without success.

    Here's a thread discussing that:

    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=57810

    I have not dynamically rewritten the xml, but I have swapped nav menus on a criteria using something like:

    select
    case session.m="1"
    tmpl_tr_nav = a5w_load_component("tr_nav1")
    case session.m="2"
    tmpl_tr_nav = a5w_load_component("tr_nav2")
    case else
    tmpl_tr_nav = a5w_load_component("tr_nav1")
    end select

      Thanks Steve!

      In my application i wanted to let the administator give access to all the different menu items. I think when the application is finished it may have about 40 menu items.
      However i can use your suggestion and give users access to different menu's (internal users, external users, administrators, management)

      In a custom control you can place html between <<%html% and %html%. To populate a dropdownbox in a non alfabetical order i am trying as well to build that code dynamically.

      i think when 1 is solved the other problem is solved as well.

        In a custom control dropdownbox is sortable

        it took some time, but i believe below is the solution to get a sorted DropDownBox

        in the CUSTOMCONTROL_render function:

        'Write Xbasic code here that returns the HTML to be displayed by this control
        dim tbl as P
        dim arr_count as N
        dim cValues as c

        tbl = table.open("MyTable")
        arr_count = tbl.records_get()

        dim raw[arr_count] as P
        raw.initialize_from_table("MyTable", "", "SortField")
        tbl.close()

        FOR i = 1 TO arr_count
        cValues = cValues + "<option value=\"" + raw[i].StoreValue + "\">" + raw[i].DisplayValue + "</option>"
        NEXT

        CUSTOMCONTROL_render = <<%html%
        <select size="1" class="Winclassic2Select">%html%
        CUSTOMCONTROLL_render = TYPECALL_render + cValues
        CUSTOMCONTROL_render = TYPECALL_render + "</select>"

        I will try to customize the code insode the xlm tags as well to get the user defined access menu.

          If this is a vertical menu, a simple way to get the result you want is to use a single field grid. Each record would just be a link field to open the desired page. You could build a very simple table with fields that could be used for filtering and sorting, one for the text to appear on the 'option' and one to set the page to open on the link.

          The grid could be defined with two fields. The first would be the menu option "text" field, configured as a link, with "Value in Field" as the display in link and "Computed from fields in the Grid" as the link value. The second field would be be the "page" field, that would have its column hidden. The link value for the link field would just be the placeholder for the "page" field.

          When the grid is added to a page, you can dynamically filter the grid based on any field in the table with an override and show almost any combination of options you want.
