Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PRINT TO HP 9000n PRINTER

I mistakenly posted this to an A5 board previously. Lenny Forziati kindly moved it here. My apologies to all. RW

We have been running A4V6 in our invoicing dept for as long as it has been available. It has been as reliable as an anvil. The hardware it runs on is ancient in computer years. The printer is the same age and is stumbling occasionally. ( An HP6L I think?) This printer is not on the network. It is connected directly to the old computer running A4V6.

We purchased a new Dell setup. We want to print to a networked HP 9000n for more speed and reliability.

The network is a peer to peer running Windows 2000 sp4.

We cannot find a driver to print from A4V6 to the HP 9000n printer.

We can print from other programs to the HP 9000n from the Dell computer.

We tried updating to A4V7 but when we choose "Windows Printers" we get an error message "Cannot find PTRINFO.A4"

Is there a driver for A4v6 for the HP 9000n?

If we must update to A4V7 how do we find the driver file?

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanx for your help. RW

      Ralph;
I am pretty certain you can use the HP III/IV driver in A4 with your new machine. I use this driver with no problems on HP 4000 series printers. Since HP generally (at least historically, I believe) makes their lasers backward compatible, I think everything should work.

        Ralph -

Sounds to me like you have a bad install of A4v7. If other programs on this Win 2000 machine have the HP 9000n available to them, then A4v7 should have it available. Also, in Win 2000 and above I believe you MUST use v7 or v8 -- otherwise you are courting data corruption. You ought to be able to check this out with a search or two on this board. As I recall these are the two significant features of v7 over v6.

PRINT TO HP 9000n PRINTER (continued)

I tried the suggestions of those who replied to no avail but thanx to those who tried.
Some additional info that I discovered may help.
The A4V6 printer configuration only shows LPT and COM ports to the printer.
The HP9000n is running on a network and is connected thru a TCP\IP PORT.
How can I get A4V6 to feed that port?
If the solution is upgrading to A4V7 I still have the problem getting the error message that the "PRTINFO.A4 file cannot be found".
The A4V7 disc is several years old. Is there possibly an upgrade/patch that I do not have which contains the PRTINFO.A4 file?
The A4V7 disc we have has this number on the center-J407-H 004084744R23.
I suspect this is the registration for the original installation. Another computer in our company has been running this ever since it was available but we never tried to print from it to a Windows printer.
We have moved the office a couple of times since we bought the A4V7 disc and the original papers seem to have disappeared.
Any help anyone can suggest will be most welcome! Thanx RW
