Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Newbie needs help

I have been working with A5V6 for several days; I want to keep track of Investment data. I have set up a very small Table for my "accounts" and a table for "Dividend Data". I have entered a very small amount of information in both; I can view all my information; I have linked the tables. I have used the genie to create reports; but I cannot preview or print anything! When I try to preview, all I get is a blank form with a very small "box" in the upper left corner! No other information - nothing! A5 is definitely not for non programmers as I have read on other posts! I have used Excel and flat file databases for years, but A5 has me stumped. I would appreciate some help. Thanks

Have you tried opening the AlphaSports sample database and previewing a report there? If you have the same problem it may be a corrupt Alpha installation.
    There can be only one.

I opened AlphaSports, preview was OK and I was able to print. What else could be wrong in my database ?

New problem: Tried to create report with genie from a separate table, but recvd error msg "Warning-Page Mismatch".
Report margins Left: 0.50, Top 0.50, Right 9.89*, Bottom 10.50*
This is an impossible condition! I went to FILE/PRINT SETUP and changed SIZE from "Custom Size 0x0"/100" ( what in the world is this setup?) to Letter but my preview STILL shows ONLY a small box in the upper left corner of the page! HELP button doesn't work. I'm really FRUSTRATED at this point.

Time to attach a sample of your database and let us take a look.

We probably just need the table or set (and its support files) upon which the report is based.

              Check zip table

              or zip set

I followed instructions in "Zip Table"; don't know if file was sent. Let me know, please. Thanks

Lost track of this thread. I probably should have said...

Once the table is zipped you can attach it to this thread. The zip file will be a valid attachment.

                    Yes! for non-programmers

                    Ed,
Not so. Truths: 1) I am a newbie and NOT a programmer and have found REAL help in this Board and have produced very robust databases without needing programming. 2) This is an outstanding message board and if you are clear and concise... you will get help. 3) My greatest hurdles are believing I have everything set right and questioning A5. If it is installed corrctly, trust A5 and reiterate your steps carefully.

Have not seen the tables posted yet.
