Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    issues migrating from v5

    hello:

    i've had a5v7 installed on my computer for some time and haven't had the time to use it. the main board failed and required win-doze to be reinstalled, killing the registry with my a5v5 data. i re-loaded xp and a5v7 + the latest patch and am having difficulty with a script and an operation . the (abbreviated )script is as follows

    Code:
    dim cr_test as n
    dim dr_test as n

    		if between(account_pointer,"2000","4999") 'case for assets calculation
    			if running_total>0
    				cr_test=running_total
    				dr_test.value=0
    				goto post_detail
    			else
    				cr_test=0
    				dr_test=0-running_total
    				goto post_detail
    			end if
    		else
    			if running_total>0
    				dr_test=running_total
    	error line     >>>>>	cr_test.value=0
    				goto post_detail
    			else
    				dr_test=0
    				cr_test=0-running_total
    				goto post_detail
    			end if
    		end if
    i receive an error message
    "Variable frame bad"
    "cr_test.value subelement not found".

    this occurs only if i have an account outside of the filter

    between(account_pointer,"2000","4999")

    if i have an account within the filter, an append operation that occurs previously in the script leaves a temporary table in an unusual state. the table should have filtered records in it, however it shows none. when i click on "show all records" none appear in the default browse. if i clikc on the right side-bar the records then show as expected.

    how can i recover from this?

    thanks in advance!!

    best regards,

    ed

    too dumb!

    sorry for wasting the bandwidth!

    i see that for some unexplained reason i included .value after the variable ????????

    this indeed worked in v5 and the error was missed for years, v7 was displeased by my errant typing. still have issues tith tha append, but i'll look at it after some sleep.

    best regards,

    ed

      hello again:

      i fixed my glaring glaring coding error and still have a problem with running a join operation.

      there is a temporary table called g_l_temp used in the join. it gets zapped before use, then joins two other tables into it. i get an error message "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. this is the only one script that uses the table and that is where the error occurs. how can i fix this?

      thanks in advance

      regards,

      ed

        - all in the same script? Put an XBASIC_WAIT_FOR_IDLE() immediately after the zap command to pause long enough for the table to not be in use from that statement.
        There can be only one.
