Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

after searchin a table, the results are hidden when sorting ?

I have a table that I search, when I get the results back if i click on a columb heading to sort the results alphabetically, any of the results that have the same value in that specific columb are hidden leaving just one result. I would like to keep the functionality of sorting the results by clicking the columb header. is there a property that allows this? any help would be great as I came across this function by accident.
    Mark.

That sounds really odd. Normally sort just sorts the data and shows all occurences of all values, even if the same. I could not find any "feature" that purposely collapses the report, even if result of a search.

Can you provide some more detail or a screenshot.

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. if you want to go to this page, http://mrees.alphafiveonline.com/Login.A5W
login with user mark and password mark.
click on consignment search. if you search on general road under the consignment type and click search you will get 3 results. Two of the results will have "from city" = cardiff. if you click the from city title then one of the cardiff results will disapear.

I have discovered that this is controled by columb titles and sorting options, however I cant stop the results disapearing. is there a way to keep the results?. have a look and see what you think, I will post the screenshots.

Well it's quite bazzar. I tried retro'ing one of my grids with search to match your settings, and it does not limit results when sorting. Couple things you should try:
        • publish to your localhost and see if it does the same thing there
        • create from scratch a different search grid with a different table and see if it happens there. Try this on localhost and published to your host.
        • see if it happens on ALL of your grids, not just the Consignment one I looked at.
        • Copy your Consignment grid and take off the search component; see if it still restricts results when you sort the entire data set.
        • Try changing your Search Style (search property) from 1 to 2 and see if that changes anything
        • if above fails, try creating a brand new Alpha project, add a dummy table and create a fresh grid component, and test that.
        • if everything still fails, find someone to send your application to and have them publish and test on their copy of Alpha. That will determine if it is Alpha or something else.

I also note (from your screenshot) you are several patches behind on your development copy. You should update your copy of Alpha.

By the way, perhaps it is Karma because your user Id is "Lost", indicating you will never get there!!

thanks steve, I'm not sure what ID to go for next, I used Lost when I was starting out with Alpha 5. I should change it to looking I guess.
          thanks for your help.
