Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Navigation Bar Positioning in Web Page

    I have discussed bout including Navigation Bar in web pages before. The include statement does include the Navigation bar. I have also published two sites using he include statement.

    Even though I am able to include the Horizontal Navigation bar, I am unable to specify the positioning of the horizontal navigation bar. I have my company logo and other links on top of the page. The Navigation bar should come below the logo. It should placed one paragraph below the logo. The include statement places the navigation bar far below. I need advise to place the navigation bar below the logo, precisely. This will help to decide on size of the main content of the page to be displayed.

    I have tried several alternatives, including making the logo line on top of navigation bar in the NavHorInclude.a5w page. It does not change the position of bar. My search in the forum did not produce any result in positioning the navigation bar.

    To understand my problem, you may visit http://www.ghicenter.net/inbound

    Your final page being sent to the browser has many problems with the HTML code, including multiple body tags. When using includes, you need to be careful about what is included where.

    Also if you look at the source, you will see the table that has your logo, <p>&nbsp;</p> (which is an empty paragraph), and then the table with your navigation. Simply remove the empty paragraph from whichever file has it to tighten things up.

      Navigation Bar Positioning in Web Page

      I did remove the extra <p></p> tag and it reduced the space between the logo line and menu. But even though the table property is set to align center, cell is set to center, the menu does not get centered.

      I need help with one more aspect of menu display. You would have seen that the menu bar is only 75 to 80% of the size of the screen. I would like to have this extend up to 100% of the screen. I tried many alternatives without success. Can you help?

      Thanks,

        Here is a snippit of code which will display a graphic for a header and then center the menu under that. As you can see, it goes right under the </head> marker.

        Also, to get the items tighter, try using the margin: =0 command in the <p ... section.

        Code:

        </head>
        <body class="ArmyPageBODY" bgcolor="#808080">
        <p align="center"><img style="WIDTH: 800px; HEIGHT: 50px" src="hheader.jpg" ></p>
        <table align=center>
         <tbody>
         <tr><td align="middle" valign="top"><!-- system navigation --><%a5 ?x_Menu.Output.Body.navsysTBH %></td></tr>
         </tbody>
        </table>

          Nav Bar

          Ram,

          As you probably know, there are two ways to specify the width of an object in a web page - you can use absolute measurement (ex: width=40) or relative (width=75%). The former sets the width of the object in question to an sbsolute width 40 pixels; the later sets the width to 75% of the available space i.e., if the object is within a table whose width is 90% of the screen width and the width of the object is set to 50%, it (the object) takes up 50% of the 90%.

          A minor problem is that if you use a percent sign (%) in an A5W page, you MUST write it as "xx%", not just xx%, since xx% does not render properly.
