Filtering a web component

Can anyone tell me if its possible to filter a web component directly. Is there anyway i can insert a dbf.filter or perhaps use the grid events, beforesearch after search etc... I have looked everywhere including the 'using grid events' in the help section, but can seem to find anything that refers to this function directly. All i want to do is filter the lookup result based on my session.vcompany_id variable.

I had never even used Lookup before, so was interested to see how. I found your filter solution. See the graphic. You add it with same syntax as you would for the A5W page, in the Lookup dialog under Override Settings.

It doesn't work. This is what I did:

1. In the lookup grid I defined the filter.
2. I tested that and it works.
3. Then, in the grid that looks up, I copied the generated code into the override portion, like you said, and I removed the code from the lookup grid. So I am sure I did not make typo's.
4. After publishing, the lookup grid was not filtered
5. I also tried te Query parameters line, right below the override settings, no go either.

Did you test your solution?

I am too anxious a programmer not to test everything I ever post as a solution on this forum. The graphic image I included in my post is my test. I tested it, setting session.xyz to a value that I knew was in my lookup table. I tested it before setting the session variable, and the published lookup showed all records. I then set the session variable, and it DID properly filter the lookup to only include values that matched that session.xyz value.

Can you post back exactly what you set in the Override Properties. Again, mine read:

DBF.filter = "username="+quote(session.xyz)

You might also look in the Existing Properties tab and see if you see a:

DBF.filter = ""

Since that is the property you would want to be overriding with your session var.

Steve, my apologies. I thought I tested it thoroughly myself. On the localhost the filter did not work. When I published things from local webroot to remote to give you the opportunity to see it yourself, everything worked as advertised by you.

I used this override: DBF.filter = "\"Leeu\"$plaats"
This is dutch for: the string 'Leeu' must be part of a city name.
I tried to use this in the Query Parameters, but it doesn't work. I tried:

lookup_link_1c = "\"Leeu\"$plaats"

.

Apparently I do not understand the mechanism. Can you advise me here?

Thanks for your help Steve that worked, but only after i took out the quote() from the syntax.

from

DBF.filter = "username="+quote(session.xyz)

to

DBF.filter = "username="+session.xyz

Is this due to a numeric field being used rather than a character field?
