Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report.SaveAs

    Hi, having searched the board for a similar issue I cannot find exactly this scenario.

    One of my applications developed in v5 and working just fine in version 5 will will not produce the reports correctly in v7 (or indeed in v6)

    One example is the following script which saves an rtf version of a report to a file:

    query.filter = ""
    query.order = ""

    dim filename as C
    dim path as C
    dim subpath as C
    dim reportname as C
    dim whichyear as C
    dim whichweek as C
    dim vteamname as C

    'common variables
    path = A5.Get_Path()
    subpath = chr(92) + "Reports" + chr(92)
    whichyear = right(var->vYear,2)
    whichweek = "w"+var->vWeek

    'Season Leaders Reports
    reportname = "Leaders"
    filename = path+subpath+whichyear+whichweek+reportname
    :Report.SaveAs("Season Leaders","RTF",query.filter,query.order,filename,.F.)

    -------------------------------

    When running the report in v7 I get an error message "Printer not activated, error code -30"

    If I try to preview the report and then try to "save as" I get the same message.

    I figure this is a printer driver issue and not a script issue but cannot see how to resolve?

    Any help greatly received.

    Regards

    I think it must be a BUG in V7. The same thing happens when trying to print a report to a PDF file. As soon as you try to define a filter or sort order in the funtion, you receive the error message "Printer not activated, error code -30".
    If you don't define a filter or order the file is created.

    The only work around I can find is to filter your file befor calling the print funtion, and don't try to define a filter or sort order within the print funtion.

      Hi Glen,

      Try adding:

      'replace variables in the filter with their actual values
      query.filter = convert_expression(query.filter,"V")

      before:

      :Report.SaveAs("Season Leaders","RTF",query.filter,query.order,filename,.F.)

      Good luck

          Glen,

          It is time to attach a sample that works without the filter and one that does not work with a filter. That will give us something more tangent to work with.

          Good luck

            my own fix for this was to set the report filter and order to variables, and set the variables before printing/saving the report
            like:
            dim global rfilter as c
            dim global rorder as c
            var->rfilter="somefield='125' .and. someotherfield='126'"
            var->rorder="invert(enterdate)"

              If you want to filter your report, you can create a saved Query, then you can print to file using the saved query. Otherwise you get the "Printer not activated, error code -30".

              I have tried using another PDF file creator from Alpha 5 V7 without sucess.
