    Default Problem with apd

Launch the apd file causes an error that I believe was create when someone performed maintaince while users still using it. (Unable to Open Compound Index Error")

Doing the mantaince would it better to copy the file from the server to the local pc and perform the maintaince. Then copy it back?

There seems to be a number of DDD or DBF files located in the A5 directory, how could I find out which ones are used in the particular apd.
Do I need to just select the set file when doing the index build or do I need to perform a rebuild of each file individually.

Basically I would like to know what are the best practices for DB Maintaince

    Thanks Gary

If you've seen any of my posts, you would notice that we have a massive system. Over 200 users. I generally do maintenance at night, when no one is on. However, doing maintenance on a specific database or set is no real problem when the users are on. I've been using ver 1 since 1994, and still don't know what specifically causes the corruption of the dictionaries. Maintenance usually fixes the problem. Since you are using a network, do you have a solid backup procedure in place? We found a great product called "Launchpad" that will "launch" programs or applications on the server when I am at home safe in bed. Once you set them up, they work great. I would recommend doing maintenance on all databases and sets in your applications at least monthly, if not more often. If you are doing a lot of development, the dictionaries can get pretty messy. Run a maintenance on the application occationally to keep it clean and tidy as well.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom
