Is there a simple way to run non A5v7 appl passing a5v7 text variables

I looking for a simple way to pass A5 variables to non Alpha 5 exe file. I know there is an option to run a non a5 appl within a5v7, with a command line option (fixed text). But I need to transfer an a5 global variable to a non a5 appl. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

It depends on what the other Application is... does it support OLE? If so you could likely pass the data to it programmatically using OLE.

If not with OLE, maybe you could export your data to a text file, and have the other application import it or read the text file....

What is the other application?

Another possibilty is by using the send keys functions. You could have Alpha essentially "type" the data into the other application.... depends on how rapidly and how frequently this data transfer has to occur.. and how swift or sluggish the other application is...

How about using Sys_Shell or Sys_Open?

This will work if your program allows you to pass variables on the command line.

I'm having an issue with the sys_shell() command. Did anyone find a way to pass variables to it? It doesn't seem to work. Here's some example code: THIS DOESN'T WORK

Dot_File = Word_Path + " C:\Pdqltr\mailmrge.dot"
sys_shell(Dot_File, 1)

*The Variable 'Word_Path' is a GLOBAL Variable that takes the path of MS Word that is stored in a table called: tbl_Settings.dbf.

Default value of Word_Path = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE"

If I hard code sys_shell as follows it works, but not with variables. Any thoughts?

THIS WORKS, but defeats the purpose of passing a variable to it:

sys_shell("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE C:\Pdqltr\mailmrge.dot",1)
