Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    The syntax is correct, what do you get as a result, an error or just no records? Check for trailing blanks in your variable and field values; is one a charactor and one a numeric, etc.

      Thank you very much Steve.

      Both are numeric (i could print the value in my variable it comes with trailing zeros, how can i remove them?)
      The the result is that every thing is working the same way as it was without this filter all the records appear in the grid, please note that my grid having a search and detail view as well.

      Thank again.

            Open your *.a5w file and look for some thing that looks like this.
            Code:
            <%a5
            Delete tmpl_expire
            DIM tmpl_expire as P
            tmpl_expire = a5w_load_component("expire")
            'Following code allows you to override settings in the saved component, and specify the component alias (componentName property).
            'Tip: Keep the componentName property short because this name is used in page URLs, and it will help keep the URLs short.
            'Each component on a page must have a unique alias (componentName property).

            [B]You will need to place the code explained below here[/B]

            ................
            ................
            ................
            ................

            '=======================================compute the HTML for the Component=======================================
            In the above case my grid is called expire. In at the end you will see the code you need to paste into your *.a5w page.

            Yours will need to look like this..
            Code:
                DBF.filter "user_id" = \""+session.user_id + chr(34)
            Code:
            where [B]user_id [/B] is the [I]field [/I]called user_id in the User_name[B]s [/B][I]table[/I] = \""+session.user_id + chr(34)
            You will need to change the component name (your grids name) where I have "expire". Same with tmpl_expire

            So this is it!
            Code:
             with tmpl_expire
            	componentName = "expire"
                DBF.filter "user_id" = \""+session.user_id + chr(34)
            end with
            In full mine looks this...

            Code:
            <%a5
            Delete tmpl_expire
            DIM tmpl_expire as P
            tmpl_expire = a5w_load_component("expire")
            'Following code allows you to override settings in the saved component, and specify the component alias (componentName property).
            'Tip: Keep the componentName property short because this name is used in page URLs, and it will help keep the URLs short.
            'Each component on a page must have a unique alias (componentName property).

            with tmpl_expire
            	componentName = "expire"
                DBF.filter = "user_name = \""+session.WASDemo.UserName + chr(34)
            end with

            '=======================================compute the HTML for the Component=======================================
            delete x_expire
            dim x_expire as p
            Good luck.

              Thank you Peter,

              I tried your code exactly as per instructions but i get the following error.

              500 Internal Server Error
              Script Error
              Error:line:15 Extra characters at end of expression
              My code looks like this
              <html>
              <head>

              <%a5
              Delete tmpl_Visaclient
              DIM tmpl_Visaclient as P
              tmpl_Visaclient = a5w_load_component("Visaclient")
              'Following code allows you to override settings in the saved component, and specify the component alias (componentName property).
              'Tip: Keep the componentName property short because this name is used in page URLs, and it will help keep the URLs short.
              'Each component on a page must have a unique alias (componentName property).
              with tmpl_Visaclient
              componentName = "Visaclient"
              DBF.filter "userid" = \""+session.userid + chr(34)
              end with
              What shall i do now?

              Thanks a lot in advance

                Should be:

                DBF.filter = "userid" = \""+session.userid + chr(34)

                I added an equal sign just after "filter".

                If it appears easier, you can use this syntax:

                DBF.filter = "userid="+quote(session.userid)
