Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Skip Expression in a Region

I have a set that has a form with a region. In that region, I have Quantity and ID that get pulled from a lineitem database and then Description, Max, Balance and Notes that get pulled from a non-editable Inventory database. I cannot get the non-editible fields to utilize the skip expression function. I have tried .T. and 1=1. Is it even possible to get these fields to skip??

If you just want to display and not edit, you could just set the field up as a calculated field in the form. It will still stop on the field but will say "can not edit". You could also set the prompt order to the end so that it appears as if it skips it.

      skip expression in a region

I would like it to skip completely, and not have to hit enter at all.

I have found a little more info. If there is a true value, it doesn't skip it, but makes it uneditable. it it is a false value, it lets me change it. It HAS to have something to do with being in a region. The skip expressions in other parts of the form skip the field without having to hit enter to bypass it, just not in the region.

Well, I probably need more info but I will make some guesses and assumptions.

I assume you are trying to set the "skip" in the field rules. Note: there are field rules for the tables and for the set. If you have not entered any rules in the set then it defaults to the ones in the tables, otherwise the ones in the set override when you are in the set. From the Alpha4v8 User Guide:

        Field Rules and Sets
Field rules can be defined for a field at the database level and at the set level. When you
have a database selected and you define field rules, you are defining rules at the database
level. When you have a set selected and you define field rules, you are defining rules at the
        set level.
When you are working with a set, Alpha Four will use the field rules defined at the set level.
If no set level field rules were defined for a particular field, Alpha Four will use the field
rules defined at the database level (if any).
NOTE: For each field, Alpha Four will evaluate only the field rules from either the set
level or the database level, and not both. Field rules for a field comprise a collection of many
individual types of rules (e.g., Default value, Skip rules, Lookup rules, etc.). If you define
any of the individual field rules for a field at the set level, Alpha Four will look to the set
level rules for all of the individual rules. For example, a field may have a Default value,
Capitalization and Skip rule defined at the database level. At the set level, only the Default
value is defined. Alpha Four does not look to the database level rules for the Capitalization
and Skip rules. These individual field rules do not exist at the set level unless you define
        them at the set level.
If you only have the inventory table as part of the set to display inventory info and you are not entering or changing inventory table data, it is probably better to use the xlookup function in a calculated field on the form/region to display the data rather than using a set.
