Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    If you are creating a set, and if the username is in the address table, then you do not have to place the username in a second table. It would be easier to help you if you explained what fields you want to store in each table of the set.

    Have you defined a unique key field that will link the 2 tables?

          i dont i would like one but i thought i had to make a seperate table for jut usernames. since if i make a login with the customer info table wont i get all that other info like there name and address. I just want the login componet to say username and password. and i want to set the security level to each contact.

          Could u tell me how to do that with the customer table. Please

            When you create a grid component, you only place the fields that you want the user to see. It doesn't matter what other fields are in the table. When you create a dialog component, you write an Xbasic script that reads and writes only the fields that you select. Again, it doesn't matter what other fields are in the table.

              ok i made it new table and i called it members. here is the xbasic code i used

              if members = "" .or. password = "" then
              currentform.has_error = .t.
              currentform.error_message = "User name or password cannot be blank."
              else
              dim correct_password as c
              DIM level AS N

              correct_password = lookup("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\members","members=" + quote(members),"password")
              if correct_password = password then
              level = lookup("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\members","members=" + quote(members),"level")
              session.__protected__SecurityLevel = level
              session.WASDemo.UserName = members
              ELSE
              currentform.has_error = .t.
              currentform.error_message = "Invalid user name or password."
              end if
              end if.

              And i keep on gettign an error in: event.form Level validate code:
              variable "members" not found.

              not sure why i used the exact code i had before and it worked fine. so im thinking. its something to do with with where the files are?

                Is "members" the name (not the label) of a control on the dialog component?

                    i think i figured it out but a new problem as arose. when i sign up and add all the info i need like name address and so fourth. and then try to log in with the username and pass i just used it works fine. but the problem is when i try to sign up again there are two sign up boxes one above with the sign up information i just input and there is a new sign up box that is blank. how do i get it so i dont see the sign up box that has all the info i just input in earlier.

                      This code is testing whether the members or the password controls on the dialog component have null values.
                      Code:
                      if members = "" .or. password = "" then

                              Let's start over. Are you making a grid or a dialog component?
