Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web page with 2 links to pull different data

    I have a page with 2 different link fields. One is a detail view and pulls the specific item that is being clicked.

    The other I made a link, with the field value as a link. The address type is 'computed from fields in grid' and I used the following as the link address;
    Code:
    Profile.a5w?User_Id_link_1c=User_Id={User_Id}
    what happens is that the profile page opens but it opens to the first record, not the record being clicked. I saw a thread in a different forum that was similar but the answer didn't apply to web (a5w) pages.

    Any suggestions

    Ken

    Take a look in the address bar of the page being opened to confirm that the expected URL is being requested. If it is, you need to take a closer look at profile.a5w to find out why it is not using the User_Id variable that you have sent to it.

      Checked link

      I checked the link and it does show for different UserId's when I click on the properties of the link. When I click on both the first User always comes up first. the links are:

      Code:
      [COLOR="DarkGreen"][B]UserID 0[/B][/COLOR] = http://www.ykeep.com/Profile.a5w?User_Id_link_1c=User%5FId%3D0

      [COLOR="DarkGreen"][B]UserID 1[/B][/COLOR] = http://www.ykeep.com/Profile.a5w?User_Id_link_1c=User%5FId%3D1
      When I look at my Profile.a5wcmp component there doesn't appear to be anything that is hindering it in showing the correct UserId details. On the profile.a5w page I have no special coding besides the addition of the component.

      Where should I look to find my problem?

      Thanks

      Ken

        URL linking doesn't work

        I have tried everything I have read in help and no filtering works when clicking a link. When clicked the it reads nothing beyond calling the page requested. For example; the above reads up to only the profile.a5w? and that is all it will show. Nothing after it makes a difference. I have deleted portions just to get an error but it just pulls up the profile page showing all records.

        Any assistance would be appreciated.

          I've tested this and it works for me.

          it may be you just need quotes...
          Profile.a5w?User_Id_link_1c=User_Id={User_Id}
          make it
          Profile.a5w?profile_Id_link_1c=User_Id="{User_Id}" and see how you go..

          Another way I know works...

          Never had done it before but kind of easy once you get tha hang of it.

          Code:
          [COLOR="Red"]update_auto.a5w[/COLOR]?[COLOR="red"][COLOR="red"][COLOR="Blue"]update_auto[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR][COLOR="Magenta"]_filter[/COLOR]=Contact_Email="{Contact_Email}"
          Explanation My A5W page.

          This is the name of the page or element + _filter

          The bit that does the work..

          Contact_email is the field in the table.

          ="{Contact_Email}" is the data in the filed in the table being passed.

          Hope this helps.

            No luck

            Tried the suggestions and got the same results.

            What is odd is that the way I did it, and they way just suggested show in the bottom of the browser that there is a differentiation with the links- see earlier post. It shows that it is looking for ID=0, or ID=1 but it just doesn't deliver the desired result.

            I've been through the page being loaded and it follows what Alpha 5 help says.

            I'm beginning to think that this function doesn't work with Alpha 5 or there is a bug of some sort.

              Mea Culpa- Scrap Last Post

              With one last ditch effort I looked at what Pete offered and noticed I made an error in typing. His _filter suggestion worked perfectly.

              Thanks Pete

                Cheers Mate - _filter is a strange BUT powerful function.
