Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Thank you Tim for replying -
I'm not real hip- at all -on programming so pardon my stupidity here.

The If statement you derived - does that entire IF statement take the place of the calculation for the various TIME fields that the user enters? or in the final calculation field?

This calculation on this form is different from the original post - it is a different form and there are 3 times involved in the calculation as the ZIP file shows.

    Thanx

      George,

Since in your previous post you used the plant in/out time as the example that is what this expression is for. It goes in the waittime calc defined in your form.

To use it for the two other time calcs which i think are AspTime and Asptime1 you can use the same expression but sub in the two appropriate in/out fields.

The result of this calc is in minutes. The basic formula can be used in other areas of you app. If you want a different result ie hours you need to change the math ie /3600. the section in red is the test to see if the values span midnight. The other two coloured sections are the two results from that test which themselves test for a value greater than 0.

OK it kind of makes sense - but that may be because of the alchohol.. ;)
I added this calc to waittime
        WaitTime = if(toseconds(Outime)>toseconds(Intime),if(((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30),if(((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30))

each time it tells me invalid expression - it looks as thugh all the parenthesis and all are there - scratching my head and seeing dry skin fall...

        see anything wrong?

          George,

I did a copy and paste from your post into the expression builder while editing your sample app and it behaves properly. Are you using the calc in the same context ie same table as the sample i have. Is it possible that the field names are slightly different. You could also try adding the "Inv_Test->" (or whatever the table name actually is)to all the field names.

Other than that I can only suggest to completely restart Alpha and do a database compact.

Yes - It seemed that the "Inv_Test->" was needed in this case...
Hmmm - must be the alignment of the stars...

OK OK OK - It appeared at first that the calculation that Tim had derived worked - At first it semed to calculate just fine - after a day or two they called me and said it is placing $1410 in the total field before you even start to enter the record. I tried to repack/re calc and see if it made any difference. When you go to XY and look at the calc in waittime it shows 1410 as a result..

              if(toseconds(Outime)>toseconds(Intime),if(((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30),if(((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30))

Where -O- where is this mysterious 1410 coming from?

Can anyone look at this calculation / zip file above and make sense of this?

              FYI-
              the calc go's as follows.

trate = tons * ton rate

waittime = intime & outime - it deducts the first 30 minutes then the time calc

asptime = aspintime & aspouttime - it deducts the first 30 minutes then the time calc

asptime1 = aspinime1 & aspoutime1 -it deducts the first 30 minutes then the time calc

waitttl - takes the sum of the minutes calced from the waittime, asptime, asptime1 and multiplies it by .50 (pr minute)

nwait - shows the tons * ton rate + waitttl

Please o please can someone look at this thing - I'm about to lose my mind...

                George,

We Might need to add another test. ie If Outime = "" or Intime = '' then 0 else the expression we already have. I think toseconds() is working with a default value of some wierd amount. when there is no data. Try this. I'm not at a computer with A5 so can't test at the moment. May be some one else can confirm.

                If(Outime="" .OR. Intime="", 0, if(toseconds(Outime)>toseconds(Intime),if(((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30),if(((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30<0,0,((toseconds("24:00")+toseconds(Outime)-toseconds(Intime))/60)-30)))
