Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    'fill window' problem

    Hi all,

    I have an application set to fill the window with A5 maximized. Control Panel and SysMenu are turned off. All this works fine except that the startup form will not fill the window vertically until I open a form (any form) in the app and close it, then it fills the window to the top like it is supposed to.

    I use a password to start the app, and while it is paused waiting for the password, you can see horizontal lines across the screen just under the A5 title bar where the menu and toolbar WOULD have been drawn. This is where the top of the form that is supposed to be filling the screen anchors the top. As I said, after I open any other form in the app, as soon as I close it, the opening form (menu) immediately jumps to the top of the A5 window like it is supposed to.

    Anyone else run into this problem?

    Thanks,
    KenP

    try putting this code to your mainform's onInit event

    this.maximize()

          I see what you mean, and I played around with that several times. The problem is I have 7 other forms in the database that I do NOT want maximized, I display them centered with the size option enabled in case someone runs the app at lower than 1024x768 resolution (which I recommend to my customers) so that they can reposition the windows up and left and they will still look centered.

          I am using the genie to set window position and checking 'fill window' which is totally different from 'maximize'. I can still use 'maximize' with the windows, but every time the main menu loses focus it UN-maximizes, then when you close the window it maximizes again. Kind of unsettling to see that going on.

          I attached the new configuration so you can see what I mean.

          Thanks for the help, though!

            the sample you sent back, does it perform exactly the same with your application?

            if i open form2 you will see the mainform restored in the background and you dont want to see it that way... am i right? if that is the case

            put codes to your main form OnDeactivate event
            this.minimize()

            put codes to your other forms onExit events
            :mainmenu.activate()
            :mainmenu.maximize()

            this way, the mainmenu will be minimized on the window bar while displaying any form you will open as not maximixed. closing the currently opened form will trigg the onExit event and will activate the main form and maximizing it the way it was before it was deactivated.

            hope this helps

              I figured out a way to do what I want

              Hi again, Francis,

              NO, what I was trying to do was keep the first form, the Menu, Maximized all the time, but whenever I opened another window that was not maximized it would reduce the size of the Menu when you opened it.

              But back to my Original question..

              Since I can find no way to make the Menu fill the screen when it is first opened, without waiting until another form was opened and closed, I just decided to open a Weclome screen with the autoexec which also reminds them to back up their data at the end of the day. As soon as they close that window the Menu jumps up to fill the A5 window and stays that way until the app is closed.

              Kind of a screwey way to have to do it, but it works so won't complain. Thanks again for your help!
