Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Navigation System Security No Longer Working

Has something changed recently with regard to the navigation systems' security behavior? My navigation menu has been set up for a while now to filter out menu options from users below a certain security level, and it has always worked well. For some reason, I now find that regardless of security level user I am logged in as now consistently shows all the menu options. I don't think that it has anything to do with my application's security - all else appears to be working perfectly fine, and I'm certain that session.__protected__SecurityLevel is being assigned as expected.

One thing I've noticed that appears differently now is that the Navigation System Builder's display of menu options (and parent objects all the way up the hierarchy) no longer show the required security level after them.. I thought that I had seen this is in the past - possibly prior to applying the current patch (Build 4035 - 3028). However, this does show if I populate the Security Groups fields (which I have never used in my app)

Also, when I click on the Preview button now, it now simply updates the preview. It does not provide the dialog I remember asking what level security to test the preview with. It's as if it doesn't recognize any Security Level setting as valid without Security Group being set.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Tarek

Does anyone else out there have their Navigation System configured to use Security Levels?

    Thanks,

      Tarek,

Yes I do use security levels to control items to be displayed or not for certain groups of users. I use Build 3030 and it still works. Regards, Ron

At the highest level in the Navigation builder (Navigation System), you may see an option under Security titled "Security Model" Select "Level based" and the builder will show the Security Level option for each node.

          I cant see

At the highest level I can see (Root Settings): Name, Display Method, Menu Event, Width, Height, Style. Not any other opt.
Please help, I am very interested to use an "Security Model" choice. Actually this Level Based is less confortable for me, any other model seem more useful.

It's at the levels under the navigation system level.

See attached picture right top side.

I think the "SecurityModel" is a V8 feature that somehow slipped in to the 3029 update, but was incomplete at the time. Updating to 3030 solved that problem for me. The Security Model doesn't appear at the highest level (it might on prototype versions) and the security level no longer appears in the tree, but it still works for me.

Ok, I know the Security Level option. My question was that where is: " you may see an option under Security titled "Security Model" Select "Level based" ".

Its my misunderstood, but I was happy when reading your post, because you mentioned for Tarek to choice the Level Based Security Model, and if it a real option it must have other, more sophisticated choice.

As a result: it isnt any other choice of Security Model, just the Level Based.
(Exactly just only one other for me: user, group, rights tables related with tasks, pages and using filters in logintest and in grids, etc.)

                Thanks,
                Gabor
