Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Fixed Column on Browser

Is their any way to fix a column in a embedded browser.
This would be like having a fixed column in an execl spreadsheet, so when you scroll through the columns on the right the fixed column can still be seen.

    Thanks

Check out User Guide, Browse Design, Rearranging Columns specifically Splitting a Browse.
    There can be only one.

        Re: Fixed Column on Browser

V7 latest update. Within the embedded browse in design mode, the columns cannot be resized. The -|- for resizing does not appear on the column head. The browse upon which the embedded browse is based is correctly sized; however, in the embedded browse the columns are way to large and cannot be slimmed down. If the answer is in this long thread (search for 'embedded browse'), I haven't found it.

I don't have trouble resizing embedded browses with A5v7. I double click the column header to select the column and then hover near the right edge of the column header. -- tom

            Richard,

I am also not having any trouble resizing the columns in embedded browses.

Cheryl, on re-reading his post it occurs to me that perhaps Richard is working with a named browse, instead of an embedded browse... even though he describes it as "embedded". Since these are two different things, perhaps he'll clarify. -- tom

                Tom,

If you are correct and he is talking about a saved browse on a form, it is acting as it should. Columns in a saved browse on the form itself cannot be adjusted, they will appear as designed when originally placed on the form. The columns can only be resized in the saved browse layout design mode.

                Richard,

If that is the case, perhaps you changed the column sizes in your saved browse .... AFTER .... you added it to the form. Remove the object from your form and re-add it, that should resolve your problem.

                Good luck

                  Re: Fixed Column on Browser

Since it wasn't working, I took a different path. I deleted the troubling embedded browse and created a new one. This time I selected "Saved Browse", which is what I should have done in the first place. Using this selection, the embedded browse appears as it should, i.e., exactly the way it is "formatted" in browse.
                  Thanks

                    Re: Fixed Column on Browser

Dick, most of us try to distinguish the two types of browse objects which can be used in a form layout. One is the named or saved browse layout, which is defined and saved outside the form, but dropped into the form later on. Typically, this is never called an "embedded" browse. The second type is the "embedded" browse which Alpha Five creates for you, and is unrelated to any saved browse layouts in your application. When you drop a saved browse layout into a form, and then call it an embedded browse, you blur these lines in a way that most of us can't know which you're talking about. A small point to be sure. I'm glad you solved your problem. Good luck with your project.

                      Re: Fixed Column on Browser

Thanks Tom. I guess I see the element of confusion. I did use the embedded browse tool from the toolkit. However, I see on the creating form, the top selection calls it an embedded browse, the bottom selection a saved browse. I used the nomenclature of the tool, not the selection component. If I need to ever again make reference to the browse on form, I will try to recall your distinction. Thanks for the enlightenment.
