Using sys_send_keys in Query Genie?

I would like to use a barcode scanner (keyboard wedge type) to generate a query on a barcode table. I have a button on a form with the following (Action) scripting:

'Turn off query in in current form.
topparent.show_all()

'Set the index to : 'By_Barcode' in current window.
topparent.Index_SetExplicit("By_Barcode")

'Query Genie in current form at parent level.
topparent.query_genie()

'Send the following keystrokes: '{TAB}{DOWN}{TAB}{TAB}' to a window in Alpha Five
'Send keystrokes to the active object.
sys_send_keys("{TAB}{DOWN}{TAB}{TAB}")

This scripting gets as far as opening the Query Genie, but ONLY INTERMITTANLY (mostly not) does it position the cursor in the field I need to use with the barcode scanner. I have to enter the keystrokes manually to get there. After doing so, the barcode scanner works great - up to the six field limitation in the Query Genie. I can't figure this one out -- suggestions anyone?!?!?

You don't say what the object name of the field is where you wish to position the cursor. If it is named "ThisField" (substitute the field object name, usually but not necessarily the same as the field or variable name on which it is based) then

topparent:Thisfield.activate()
topparent:Thisfield.refresh()

should replace the sys_send_keys.

I would like the cursor to be positioned in the first type-in field of the Query Genie, after the previous selections in the Query Genie have been set. Here is the desired sequence, using the Alphasports Application's Invoice form as an example:

Click the Query Genie button on the Toolbar, then hit the {TAB} key to move the cursor out of the Table selection pick list to the Field pick list.

{DOWN} moves the cursor from <Record Number> to Invoice_Number. (In my app it's 'Barcode')

{TAB} moves the cursor to the "condition" pick list, the first choice being "is equal to"

{TAB} moves the cursor into the desired location, the user type-in field.

At that point in my Application, I would scan the first of six possible barcodes, continuing down to the last type-in (or in my case, scan-in) field.

This did work for a time using the method I tried to describe in my original post, but when I exited the app and re-started, it no longer worked. I'm thinking that for some reason, the Query Genie window loses focus after it gets opened and the sys_send_keys command no longer knows where to send the keystrokes. I just don't get why it worked before.
