Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Name to filename?

    In report preview, one can select 'Save in Acrobat.PDF format'. A 'Save as' dialog box appears. It provides a default filename with path. Can this default path be changed to another so that a "new user default" can be displayed and executed? If not, how can this field be referenced in script? A file name would be captured via a 'ui_get_text' dialog box and then this name substituted for the default filename. What is the reference for the filename field in the dialog box?
    TIA
    Dick

    I think you'll have to roll your own with these two functions and your ui_get_text().

    report.preview("Nw_customers") 'example
    report.saveas("Customer List", "PDF", "", "", "C:\test.pdf", .T.) 'example
    There can be only one.

      Thanks, will see what can be done. Looks feasible.

        Nope. Can't get it to work trying to use the ui_get_text (with or without quotes on the variable name). The following:
        report.saveas("InitialOrder", "PDF", "", "", "C:\EMAILOUT\InitialOrder.pdf", .T.)
        ends in a break and somehow puts me into a different script entirely. Beats me how that happens.

          Can you post the sequence that builds this line? From the ui_get_text() to dropping the result into this?

            Re: Name to filename?

            Have made a lot of progress, but still not here. Almost there with the following, but need help.
            In the code that follows:
            Nomen (when uncommented) provides the correct value. [Kind is type of report, HoldCust is the customer code, and HoldPO is the customers PO.]
            In the saveas, If I use Nomen, it does save the report as Nomen, if I use 'Nomen', it saves the report as 'Nomen'. If I use what is shown, Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO, that's what it names the file. That's not the desired result; the desired result is the value of Nomen, i.e., the concatenated value. Can't seem to be able to find the right combination. How do I get the value of Nomen to be the file's name? Thanks.
            '===================================
            'Nomen = Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO
            fn = :Report.SAVEAS("CustOrdConfirm","PDF","","","C:\A5Email\(Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO)",.T.)
            filename = fn
            '===================================
            Thanks.

              Inside the quotes in the saveas function nomen is interpreted literally, as you found out. If you stop the quotes and concatenate the nomen variable you should get your desired result.

              Code:
              Kind = "Somekind"
              Holdcust = "custcode"
              holdpo = "custponumber"
              nomen = Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO
              ? nomen
              = "Somekindcustcodecustponumber"

              ? "C:\A5Email\\"+nomen
              = "C:\A5Email\Somekindcustcodecustponumber"
              Just substitute

              "C:\A5Email\\"+nomen

              for

              "C:\A5Email\(Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO)"

              in your expression.
              There can be only one.

                Re: Name to filename?

                Thanks a million Stan.
                ? "C:\A5Email\\"+nomen
                = "C:\A5Email\Somekindcustcodecustponumber"
                Not quite sure how you were able to come up with this since line 1 doesn't appear to directly equate to line 2. Bringing the quotes back and adding the slash does work. I'm grateful and yet in wonder that what appears to be a strange machination works.

                  Code:
                  Kind = "Somekind" 'assign a value to the variable kind
                  Holdcust = "custcode" 'assign a value to the variable holdcust
                  holdpo = "custponumber" 'assign a value to the variable holdpo
                  nomen = Kind + Holdcust + HoldPO 'assign the concatenation to the variable nomen
                  ? nomen 'show the contents of nomen
                  = "Somekindcustcodecustponumber"

                  ? "C:\A5Email\\"+nomen 'concatnate the text "C:\A5Email\" with the variable
                  'the extra backslash is needed to tell the expression that the "escape character" is itself escaped
                  = "C:\A5Email\Somekindcustcodecustponumber"
                  Link to writing expressions.

                    Thanks again Stan. One learns something new every day. Been using DOS ever since the first PC came out and never knew that. Thanks also for the reference.
