Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Blank Pages in Report

I have searched the form on this topic but did not find any suggestion that solved my problem. I am getting blank pages in a report. I cannot figure out how to suppress those pages. Probably something to do with the groupings but I am not sure. I have attached a zipped copy of this test file. Under the reports tab it is the bottom report. When printed to view is has blank pages. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

    Hi Ron,

Try searching the forum for blank pages, you should find lots of others have posted about this. It can nearly always be traced to some object on your report that extends or sits outside the allowed page size for your printer (apparently this varies from printer to printer).

Hope this helps you track it down.

Thanks for the reply but I indicated I had already searched the forum but did not find a solution. I increased the page size to one that cannot possibly not include all of the data yet the issue remains. That is why I attached a copy of my file.

Ok. You're misunderstanding the previous threads.

Your layout is 10.5 inches wide.

You're using Letter size sheets, in portrait mode.

A letter sized sheet is 8.5 inches wide.

Has has been discussed myriads of times... your printer has a non-printable zone along all margins of each sheet. Even if your report layout was exactly 8.5" wide it could not be printed on a single sheet.

        I recommend:

        a) Set left and right margins at 0.5 inches
        b) set top and bottom margins at 0.5 inches.

increase these if your no print zones are larger on your printer

        c) then reduce the width of your layout to 7.5". A 7.5" wide layout will fit within an 8.5" sheet when the left and right margins are 0.5".

        d) reduce the width of each and every object in the layout until everything, including lines and frames, fits within your 7.5" layout.

The blank pages you're seeing are Alpha's effort to print the blank space along each edge of the report layout for you. In much the same way a spreadsheet spills over to a second page when it can't fit on a single sheet. The spill over pages are blank because there is no text in the no print zone of your layout.

        Hope this helps.

I think you have a conflict in the specifications for the emp_name group with keep each group together and start each group on a new page. I recommend moving the "Title" and line out of the title group to the page header and removing the title header section.

I recommend redesigning as my reply attachment.
          There can be only one.

Tom thanks for the reply but I tried changing the pages settings several times. Used landscape, used legal and still had the problem I am going to take a look at Stans reply sounds like he downloaded a redesign for the header options etc. I really appreciate the feedback though.

Stan, that is exactly what I was looking for. I need to study exactly what you did so I can make the changes on my original file. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
